Winter flowering succulents are creating such a colourful show at the Dylan Lewis Sculpture Garden, especially the pigs ears or Plakkies (cotyledon orbiculata). Loved by birds and bees, they are also so photogenic! And a well-known medicinal plant. The fleshy part of the leaf is applied to soften and remove hard corns and warts. We have stockπŸ‘πŸ»

Gardening tomorrow? Come shopping at Garden Gallery Nursery. Find us at 1B George Road, St Francis Bay.
The nursery is looking beautiful in the Winter light!
We are so excited that one of our favourite Winter flowering plants is about to flower - Lemon buchu (Agathosma glabrata). Winter flowering plants feed birds, bees, butterflies and other essential insects. Cape honeysuckle, Strelitzia reginae, Red hot poker, Wild Rosemary (not to be mistaken for Australian wild rosemary, Westingea. Indigenous Wild rosemary (Eriocephalus africanus) has soft, grey needle like leaves and white wooly flowers), Aloes and many flowering succulents such as pigs ear/ Plakkies (cotyledon orbiculata) which is loved by sunbirds. Our indigenous bush violet (Barleria) are all in flower - purple prince, tickled pink and the lovely rosea.
Our enormous lemon tree is producing abundant fruit at the moment. Don't miss out on organic lemons!
The cheerful indigenous Euryops daisy flowers prolifically at this time of year. Plant it to attract butterflies!
How can one not love Lambs Ear, with its soft, furry grey leaves that resemble lambs ears. Ideal for coastal gardens and children's gardens.
We are open tomorrow from 9.30 to 1pm for these gorgeous plants. We always suggest planting with compost and Bonemeal to establish roots. Organic fertiliser is recommended to improve the poor soil.

"Hi, I'm a snail 🐌
I know that sometimes you don’t like me because I feed on the leaves of your garden or plants.
I give you some advice though: don’t kill me with poisons that cause me pain and pollute your garden!
If you put coffee grounds around your plants I will stay away and you will nourish the soil, because coffee grounds are fertilizer!
Hair also works. If you give yourself a trim or brush your dog, put the hair in the garden. Egg shells as well.
If you see me attached to a vase don't rip me from there, my protective wrappr breaks and I'll die.
If you see I'm being followed by little virgins, don't intervene, it's my little ones that I gave birth to. They are born without a shell, they are very delicate! Then, in a short time, nature will endow them with a tiny soft shell (don't touch it, it's fragile!) ). My little few survived!
But we are animals useful for the ecosystem, our history is very ancient!
Help us survive, thank you so much πŸ™ 🐌"

No matter how many times you've seen this flower, it is always just as exquisite. Obviously a favourite of ours! Dietes grandiflora, our indigenous Wild Iris. Often called Fairy Iris because the fragile white petals not only look like fairy wings but also have a tendency to disappear overnight! πŸ§šβ€β™€οΈ Did you know they often bloom before rain? Here's hoping 🀞
