Our dear Auntie Rosie

It is with a deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Aunty Rosie. After
suffering a severe heart attack on Monday the 16th of December, Rosie was admitted to Tygerberg Hospital where she was monitored closely as she was in and out of a coma, until yesterday morning, 20 December 2024, when she passed away.

Our deepest condolences and sympathy go out to Rosie`s son, Grant, and her family.

Rosie, or Auntie Rosie, as she is affectionately known on campus, has been part of the EG family community for 26 years, first working with Elizabeth in a private capacity, caring for Inez and Gawie, later joining the campus team as one of the 1st employees in the role of housekeeping.

Rosie will never be forgotten as the one who made EG feel like home for all of us. She had a
kind, understanding ear, and empathetic nature, but the conviction to skel us out if she saw fit,
everyone knew that Rosie was the “real boss” on campus.

It was an inhouse chuckle as Rosie's long service to EG allowed her the privilege of multiple tea
and snack breaks on the daily. As staff settled in her kitchen for a much-needed caffeine or snack break in intervals throughout the day, Rosie could not ward off the temptation to join, resulting in Rosie being the most informed member of staff.

And so, if anybody needed to knowwhere someone was, what was up, where you were supposed to be, or find anything, you'd simply – Go ask Rosie!

Rosie credits the students for keeping her young at heart, as she became an impactful part of
everyone’s journey through EG, always offering kind, encouraging words and a helping hand –
and boy did she have stories!

The Elizabeth Galloway community will forever be grateful to Rosie for her dedicated service,
care and love. She will be forever missed.

Rest in Peace - our beloved Aunty Rosie.

The Karoo Winter Wool Festival is coming up and we are excited to announce that our students will be hosting a craft workshop!

Our beginner workshop will be running on Friday 14 June and Saturday 15 June between 13:00 and 14:00.
The workshop is open to kids ages 7 and up for a basic weaving activity, and ages 12 and up for learning the basics of crochet and knitting.

Melindie du Preez from Stellenberg Highschool will be joining the Elizabeth Galloway Academy of Fashion in 2025 after winning the Realize your Fashion Designer Dreams Student Competition 2023 in collaboration with Reflekt Model Management.

Melindie has recieved a full 1 year academic bursary at Elizabeth Galloway, as well as an introduction to the Model & Fashion industry Skills Programme bursary at Reflekt Development Division Garden Route. She also receives a styled photo session to the value of R10 000.

If you have always been interested in working in the Fashion Industry you should definitely consider pursuing your dream by starting with a three year Fashion Design course.

Degree in Fashion Design

The Degree programme is planned to stimulate critical thinking and professional methodology, with contextual studies covering topics of cultural, historical and contemporary practice and theory in fashion design. Although the programme promotes theoretical key skills, sound technical ability is at the core of all module outcomes. We expect that students will be exposed to job opportunities in the fashion design practice, textiles, editing / journalism, styling, fashion design retail and the apparel industry.
