Fairview and Shiraz go way back.

When Charles' late grandfather, Charles Back I, purchased Fairview in 1937, there was a small area at the bottom of the farm called Kopland, planted with Shiraz. Over the years the fruit was mainly used in the production of Port style wine which was sold in bulk to the KWV. Later on in 1974 Charles' late father, Cyril Back, bottled the very first wines under the Fairview label. One of these first bottlings was a 1974 Fairview Shiraz. The wine fared exceptionally well, garnering local and international recognition as one of the best examples and expressions of South African Shiraz.
