KUNSTENAAR VAN DIE WEEK:

Ek is gebore in Clanwilliam waar my pa geboer het. Die rooibostee het wild op ons plaas gegroei. Ons trek Malmesbury toe waar ek opgegroei het in die hart van die Swartland, die goue koring en die aronskelke in die vleie.

Ek het van kleins af baie geteken maar nooit opleiding gekry nie. My pa het vir my n boek van Van Gogh gekoop en ek wou graag so skilder. Ek het gaan skoolhou en eers al my kinders grootgemaak en toe ons Stilbaai toe kom 20 jaar gelede het ek skilderklasse geneem en sinsdien skilder ek en . geniet dit vreeslik baie.

Dit is wonderlik om die wonderlike wereld om ons in kleur op doek te probeer vasvang. Ander stokperdjies is lees en reis en diensbaar te wees. Ek het al n paar maal saam met Geopende Deure na lande gereis waar Christene baie vervolg word om hulle te bemoedig en die Woord aan hulle te bring.

Walter’s Place, an excellent self catering guesthouse right on the shore. It is a modern , white double storey thatch roof house, with a balcony overhanging the ground level veranda. BIRDWATCHING - The Hessequa region - as the entrance to the Garden Route - is renowned for its natural features with diverse fauna, flora and marvellous landscapes.

Nature enthusiasts, including birding groups often visit Hessequa, due to the high yield of bird species within the respected biomes within and surrounding the region.

The Boosmansbos Wilderness Area and the Grootvadersbosch Nature Reserve, located along the mountainous region of Heidelberg are regarded as birding hotspots with over 170 birding species spotted within this area!

The coastal gems of Gouritsmond, Stilbaai, Jongensfontein and Witsand offers excellent birdwatching opportunities with the sighting of the Black Oyster Catcher, Olive Woodpecker and the White-Chinned Petrels. The Roland Rudd bird hide is located at the oxidation ponds at Stilbaai Waste Water Treatment Works and the ideal location to photograph the Purple Heron, Water Thick-Knee and the African Darter.

Riversdale has developed a marvellous reputation as being the Floral Paradise of the Garden Route with birding areas including the Garcia's Moutain Pass, Novo and district roads leading towards Albertinia and Herbertsdale.

Hessequa Tourism invites nature lovers and the greater birding communities to stay within the marvellous Hessequa region and spot some of the rare birding species found in the area.

📣FIREWORKS STRICTLY PROHIBITED

The discharge of chinese lanterns and fireworks is strictly prohibited in the Hessequa municipal area. Fireworks, chinese lanterns and other similar items are a major fire risk and will be carefully policed by Local Law Enforcement and the SAPS. Persons guilty of this offense can be fined R1,000 (one thousand rand) in terms of Hessequa Municipality’s Fireworks By-law. Call the municipality's 24-hour emergency number 028 713 2222 or 084 014 1828 to report fires in the Hessequa area.

📣VUURWERKE STRENG VERBODE

Die afvuur van chinese lanterns en vuurwerke is streng verbode in die Hessequa munisipale area. Vuurwerke, chinese lanterns en ander soortgelyke artikels is 'n groot brandrisiko en sal noukeurig deur die Plaaslike Wetstoepassers en die SAPD polisieer word. Persone skuldig van hierdie misdryf kan met ‘n boete van R1,000 (eenduisend rand) beboet word ingevolge Hessequa Munisipaliteit se Vuurwerke Verordening. Skakel die munisipaliteit se 24-uur noodnommer 028 713 2222 of 084 014 1828 om brande in die Hessequa area aan te meld.
