Wishing the Umdloti community and all our visitors a safe and blessed Easter holiday filled with happiness and joy 😎

Weekends are for relaxing and having a good time! And, in Umdloti we understand this and encourage the community to make full use of the beaches and forest trails….you may get lucky and spot a shy duiker.

But we urge everyone to please leave only your footprints behind after a wonderful day out. Pick up any litter you may have created and be sure to dispose of it at home – remember, nature is there for everyone to enjoy!

We all love shortcuts!

But in Umdloti we ask everyone to please protect the dunes by using the stairs to get onto the beach. Trampling over dunes destroys plants that hold the soil together and prevent erosion.

To help the dunes recover from the terrible storms that have caused serious erosion the Conservancy plants suitable indigenous plants recommended for dunes such as Aloe thraskii.

Look after our dunes, and they’ll look after you for generations to come.

Despite more than 100mls of rain falling in an hour during the torrential storm in January this year, damage to the village was mainly cosmetic - all our infrastructural upgrades held up in spite of some projects which are not yet complete - and necessitated a clean-up action.

The Umdloti Smart Village took swift action, reaching out to the municipality and engaging the water, sewerage and storm water departments, along with their contractors. Within hours, assessment and response teams were on-site and within hours the municipality mobilised to clear sand from the roads.

The unwavering support extended beyond official channels as Leomat Construction and community members rallied on Monday to initiate clean-up efforts.

George MacDonald's commendable efforts in clearing sand from the Total garage and South Beach parking did not go unnoticed.

Amidst the challenges, the people of Umdloti showcased their solidarity, proving that in times of crisis, our community stands strong. A heartfelt thank you to our community. Clearing-up and restoration operations continue on South Beach Rd where infrastructure was damaged and sand removal operations are ongoing.

Umdloti is an ‘eco island’ with only one road in and out! Nestled between pristine d’Moss protected forests, the Indian Ocean and two estuaries’, we have so much to offer families looking for a safe, clean environment to live and work. But don’t believe us….come and see for yourself what all the fuss is about.

The reputation and appeal of Umdloti Village is founded on a strong environmental ethos where the conservation of the unique rocky shores and rare coastal dune forests remains not only a desirable but critical objective.

This is evidenced by the low-key “recreational” lifestyle of the village. There are no through roads and pedestrians have precedence over vehicles – we urge all drivers to slow down and enjoy the environment. The community works hard to protect the natural environment and ensure that commercial development is sympathetic to the traditional lifestyle. Based on a recreational lifestyle and sustainable eco-tourism - from “Estuary to Estuary & Green to Marine”.

With parking at a premium, scooters have become our go-to for zipping around town. 🛴

Safety comes first, so please, always remember to wear helmets while riding. Protect yourself and your loved ones as we enjoy the nippy freedom these scooters bring to our lives! Let's make responsible choices and ensure a joyful, accident-free season ahead!

What is your vision for Umdloti?

With so many unique features, we believe Umdloti has the potential to be “The Jewel of the North Coast”:

• We’re a small seaside village nestled between the ocean and the forest and has
• One access road where pedestrians have precedence over vehicles
• Two bathing beaches, one a natural tidal pool
• A "no take" Marine Conservancy where scientists are studying the regeneration of mussels and other sea life
• Excellent surf, kiteboarding, fishing, trail running, and a 3.5 km promenade
• A vibrant and close community
• A recreational lifestyle that is friendly, relaxed, and in touch with nature
• World-class restaurants where patrons can watch whales and dolphins at play

If you want to preserve our Village's unique "sense of place” and play a positive role in Umdloti’s future we urge you to join Umdloti Smart Village and contribute to its upliftment
