It's very hot today (40⁰ at 11h00) so a mongoose decided to cool off in our birdbath! The Pale Chanting Goshawk who was hunting nearby didn't pay any attention to this little guy who spent about 5 minutes lying in the water!

Christmas in the Klein Karoo... I was blown away this morning when I saw this tree in the middle of nowhere along the R341. It really put a smile on my face!!! And I just had to stop and appreciate what someone had taken the time to do. Makes me wonder WHO went to the effort. Whoever you are... most people probably whizz past without appreciating this Christmas tree, but I think it's fantastic! Thank you!

Our spekbooms have taken a beating the last few weeks. 😔 They usually do get hit by the frost but this year we've had a few -5 mornings. No fear... they will recover, there are still green leaves underneath and they are quite resilient. Just rather sad to see all the damage.

Another of nature's incredible creations! At first glance this just looks like a solid succulent, but when you look closely, it is made up of individually stacked leaves!!! And new stacks grow out from between the individual stacks. So excited with this new find for my little bowl of special succulents 😍 and can't wait to see the creamy white flowers that it produces!

The Traka River is RAGING... and rising!

Traka River is RAGING! Lots of dead trees and wood being washed down. The water seems to be rising too. It's an angry river today! We've had more than 60mm of rain since Sunday night which is amazing for the veld!

At last I managed to get a beautiful video of our Scrub Hare. Watch right to the end because it comes very close! It visits our garden every morning and evening. Today it (he or she I'm not sure) was very inquisitive. It's actually very unafraid of us which means we get to watch it often.

Well now... this is a bit of a Sunday surprise! Friday we were just commenting that a lot of the small remaining pools were clogged with algae! Nature has now cleaned it all up!

Every evening at dusk the Pale Chanting Goshawk sits on this pole and calls.

Good morning from Toorwater! Our neighbours beautiful Angora goats heading past our property, off to graze in the veld.
