Welcome Back United Airlines 😁

United Airlines has expanded its service from Cape Town to New York/Newark. The airline has commenced its year-round service of three weekly flights between Cape Town International Airport and its New York/Newark hub.

In addition to connecting Cape Town and South Africa’s Western Cape with the greater New York/New Jersey region, the new schedule provides customers flying from Cape Town with easy and convenient connections, through United’s New York/Newark hub, to more than 85 US cities, including Chicago, Houston, Washington D.C. and Los Angeles.

United first launched flights from Cape Town in December 2019, and it quickly became one of the airline’s flagship international routes.

Great news - more international flights between RSA and USA.

Statement by Alderman Mayoral Committee Member Alderman James Vos

City welcomes news of approval for US’s Delta Air Lines flight.

Cape Town’s economy has been given a big boost with the news of the US’s Delta Air Lines finally getting the go-ahead from the South African government to fly a triangular route between Atlanta, Johannesburg and Cape Town.

This approval is a long time coming. I have written several bespoke submissions on behalf of the City to Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula and Tourism Minister Lindiwe Sisulu on this matter over the past few months.

As the world continues its efforts to recover from the pandemic, more and more international airlines have announced flights to and from Cape Town International Airport. Most recently, Air Belgium said it will start a seasonal route from September 2022, while Air Botswana, Emirates and KLM will all increase the frequency of their flights in the coming months.

Australia visa update

Please note there are a high number of visitor visa applications which were unable to be finalised due to travel restrictions in November. It will take time to process these applications as well as new applications which have been received since Australia’s borders reopened to visitors.

If you lodged your application more than 3 months ago, please upload updated information to your ImmiAccount. Relevant information to upload includes your current circumstances (employment information, financial information, or invitation letters) and travel plans. This will help us to work through the backlog of applications.

We encourage you not to make any irreversible travel plans until you have received a decision on your visa application as we may not be able to finalise your application before your desired travel dates due to a high number of applications. We appreciate your patience.
