Food for thought!

After doing the hours of Googling to find a dehydrated or freeze-dried meal that would not break the bank I was pointed to a local manufacturer (thanks Miszewski).

Outdoor Food Lab in George.

Their website told a good story so I ordered six meals and hoped for the best. Super service and two days later they arrived.

My very first taste was at the end of day one. Nope, I never tested them beforehand.

"What could go wrong"😲

As it turns out nothing at all. 👌

In fact these little packets with their dehydrated goodies inside tasted amazing especially after a long day of river SUPing.

The package indicates each is a meal and a half which was just the right quantity I needed.

For breakfast I had 230g of the Spar house brand muesli with a splash of milk. One litre of long life milk was more than enough for the trip.

Lunch was 200g of trail mix, I ordered online from Yellow Submarine Foods, which I roasted with a little added honey. The left over lunch was added to the next mornings breakfast.

I filtered about 3L of river water a day for cooking and drinking.

I left the fancy coffee stuff like the Aeropress and Moka pot at home so it was instant coffee all the way.

My only 'sweet treat' was half a packet, 2.5g, of drink-o-pop soft drink powder in a litre of water per day.

Finally we're here and as ready as can be - it's been a long day or two of packing and some race admin but we're all packed with bags and bikes prepped for transition trucks. Time for a beer and a rooibos sherry and rest our legs before a long 4 or 5 days and nights out on our legs.

After a sparrows fart start we arrived in Vanrhynsdorp - race registration, some admin, quick lunch and last minute shopping, a few race ceremonies and braai. A little glass of and looking forward to an early nights sleep. Lekker vibe here... lots of gees here in , lots of nerves and lots of excitement.
