"One of my first vivid memorys is watching my Grandmother in her kitchen. She was flipping something with a spatula. I tried to copy her and ended up grilling my hand! I was between the age of 6 and 8. It all started here
My interest in cooking started when I was a
young girl living in my grandmother’s house in District Six. My grandmother was well known for her baking and the tasty dishes that she prepared with such care and attention not only for her large family, but also for the Muslim community to which we belonged. I also remember visiting my other grandmother, who allowed me to experiment with puddings.
1988 - 2005
The author of three highly successful cookbooks – The Cape Malay Cookbook still a bestseller, More Cape Malay Cooking and The Cape Malay Illustrated Cookbook. With it she brings a wealth of new experience, having travelled extensively around the world thanks to her successful cooking acclaim. Amongst others, she has:
• Represented the SA Government at the Smithsonian Festival in Washington in 1999
• Represented the Cape Town Convention Centre in South Korea in 2003
• Invited by the South African ambassador to Muscat to be a chef at the South African Freedom Day Festival
• Honoured guest chef at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Muscat to cook for the South African Food Festival 2005
• Travelled frequently to Cairo as well as Turkey and Greece
2005 - Present
Faldela has been running a catering business until now and for quite a long time Faldela has been mixing spice for her friends both in South Africa and abroad. Faldela Williams (Taste of Cape Town) was born when Faldela's son, Saadiq, joined the business and branded the name Faldela Williams. Mission
