Hey guys, finally in one location and wanted to share our amazing digital nomad meetup in Egypt 🐫

We were a group of 12 digital nomads from all over the world.

We started in Cairo and and visited the Great pyramids of Giza and Sphinx. We rode as a group on camels overlooking the pyramids and was pretty magical. That night we had drinks and dinner together at our beautiful hotel and even got a private serenade with Egyptian music.

Next day - we also saw Tutankhamen’s golden mask and visited the Egyptian museum. We had the best tour guide who taught us so much and also showed us some local food places.

We then went to the airport and in true Egypt time the flight was delayed by an hour and a half (seems to be normal there 😱 just a heads up)

We finally made it to our 5* hotel in Aswan and couldn’t wait to just hit the hay.

We woke up, had a delicious brekky and then headed to see the Aswan Dam, the unfinished Obelisk and took this really traditional boat the Philae temple which I loved. We then headed to our deluxe Nile River cruise and WOW were the rooms amazing??? So modern with a huge window overlooking the Nile!

We had a lovely evening and buffet dinner which was too notch (normally buffets aren’t the best but this cruise proved me wrong). Yummmmmm

Phew next morning was a super early start. We had to meet the guide at 4am to head to one of the highlights Abu Simbal. I almost didn’t get up in time and bleary eyed made it on the bus. We slept most of the way and got there after 3.5 hours. But it was worth it - such a huge historical find with pharaohs carved into the mountain side.

Later we headed back and had a chilled afternoon tanning on the cruises sundeck , sipping on beers and dipping in the pool. Some of the group even managed to get some work in while overlooking the calm Nile.

The next days we visited more temples while stopping on the banks of the Nile, a museum with 1000 year old mummified crocodiles and then what I was looking forward to the most - the Valley of the Kings. Tombs of Rameses and many others in a valley with hieroglyphics perfectly in tact - just Wow 🤩

So many dinners, adventures and sunsets together - this was such an incredible experience and group of nomads - now part of the ever growing Work Wanderers community.

Ever felt like quitting your job?

I sure did.

For years I kept thinking:

❓Where is this job taking me

❓Am I moving towards fulfilling my life’s purpose (also what is that!?)

❓Am I too old to make a change

❓ What do I even do to feel happier in my career

❓Will I ever get to travel for more than 2 weeks a year

I just sat staring at the wall with these questions swimming in my brain making me feel paralysed.

For 8 years I just felt lost.

For people looking in from the outside though, I had the perfect life.

I’d gotten two degrees, worked up the ranks to become a Head of Marketing and was seemingly financially stable.

But inside, these questions were eating away at me.

After getting a break and being offered the opportunity to work remotely from Europe for 4 months in 2018 - I knew I wanted to become a digital nomad.
..so how did I quit & change my ENTIRE career & lifestyle?

Here are some of the steps i took:

✅Decided between becoming a remote worker, freelancer or entrepreneur - spoiler - I want for entrepreneur 😜

✅Looked into a business where I could align my purpose, skills,learned and passion

✅ Did market research

✅ Started building my business while still in the office

✅ Mustered up the courage to hand in my resignation papers and commit to my new career path and lifestyle

But as I was just starting out and figuring it all out on my own, I missed some steps as I had no guidance or rule book as they say.

I wasn’t happy.

Hey FB friends 👋

Hands up if you’ve woken up for work and just felt MEH.

No motivation.
No inspiration.
No energy.

Yup, I know - been there, felt that.

Maybe your boss is a do**he, maybe the work is mundane or maybe the environment is boring AF.

When you think about it - we spend 68% of our days in the year working on average.

And for what?

A mediocre salary and some leave days a year.

Pfff.

As you can tell, I’m not a fan of the 9-5.

I just didn’t believe in a system that doesn’t offer work/life balance or flexibility.

And I wasn’t happy.

For years I secretly dreamt of owning my own business and building something impactful but...

Had ZERO clue as to what.

The tipping point happened when in early 2018 I negotiated a remote work contract with my employer at the time.

He only gave me 4 months but I got to do my marketing job from London, Prague & Budapest.

And suddenly it just felt right.

Without realizing it, I had become a digital nomad by mistake - and I fell in love with it.

I was in alignment.

A few months later I quit my stable 9-5 to embark on a career path out of my comfort zone.

I built a career that made me feel aligned & fulfilled in these 3 areas:

⚡ Passions

If you could wake up and do a job that paid you NOTHING - what would that look like? For me, it was a job related to travel or where I got to travel the world. I loved planning and booking trips.

⚡Zones of Genius

If you asked your best friend - what am I really good at? What would they say? For me, it was working with people & being strategic.

⚡Purpose

This is the tough one. Figuring out your core motivation driver. This took me almost 8 years to figure out but it was always there - I just had to acknowledge it. For me, it was helping people & making an impact.

These 3 things didn’t come together perfectly all at once but as soon as I started asking myself these questions, it became A LOT easier when trying to figure out my ideal career path.

I built Work Wanderers & now we run multiple digital nomad retreats around the world, offer a Digital Nomad Accelerator coaching program, and have online courses.

I also absolutely love doing remote career coaching with my clients.

So my question for you today is - are you in alignment?

If you can figure these 3 areas out, you will get clarity & be able to make a decision on a career that is not only right for you - but that makes you happy.

Happiness every day is an option, you just need to be open to feeling uncomfortable and making a change.

What an amazing in Cape Town ✨

We spent 5 weeks together in Cape Town with our group of Wanderers - digital nomads from all over the world 🌎

We had Braais (South African barbecue), coworking sessions, philosophy lunches, yoga sessions, pool parties and so much more!

We’re all about creating an inclusive, fun and collaborative community environment for digital nomads to connect in a beautiful location.

4 years ago I quit my job to build my own online business.

Yup, you guessed it - I got COVID. And pretty bad.

Like, can’t lift your head bad.

Living in Bali, eating acai bowls and working 4 hours a week.

Is this just all a big SCAM?

When I read the 4-hour hour work week I thought - damnnnnnn this can’t be real right?

Being a digital nomad gives you one helluva lifestyle.

You CAN live on an island

You CAN design your own work schedule

You CAN build your dream business

But…

The harsh reality is - very few are only working 4 hours a week.

The truth - a lot of nomads work just as much - if not more - than someone in the 9-5.

Why?

Well it’s a trade-off right.

You get to work from anywhere and create products and services that you are super passionate about - but it doesn’t just fall into place with the snap of your fingers.

To get that freedom you want , you gotta weeerk.

So short answer - the digital nomad thing is NOT a scam.

BUT, the truth is…

Just because we’re working in bikinis overlooking the ocean, DOES NOT mean we’re not working hard to live that way.

The ultimate goal is FREEDOM - and that’s the common denominator of what we all seek.

Quick example:

It’s 7pm on a Sunday now and I am writing this email.

(Yup - I scheduled this so I have more time - )

Am I hating life?

Nope - pretty content in fact.

Why?

Well simple answer - I CHOSE to work this Sunday eve.

I have the freedom to work when AND where I want.
