After one and a half year waiting, my dream came finally true and it was even better than I ever imaged. I was in horse heaven!!! Already when I arrived at Wait A Little three months ago, it felt from the first second onwards like home. Everybody is soooo nice it literally feels like a second family. Of course, it took me some weeks to get into the routine and to get to know all these lovely people and the first week felt so long, I was like wow three months are a really long time. But now I’m asking myself where the time has gone…

For me the most amazing thing were of course the horses but also to get the possibility to meet so many different guest and volunteers. Everybody told me their life-story, where they already where and what they have done. There are just so many interesting stories to hear, I couldn’t get enough.

Back to the riding😊.Gerti and Philipp own 39 horses, so I had a huge selection of horses, which for me was amazing. Every horse has his own beautiful character and they are all amazing to ride. Gerti, I want to thank you that I got the possibility to ride all these lovely horses and for your help in the arena. It really improved my riding-style, thank you!!!

Philip and Rusty, are both such amazing Guides!!! Both took me on so many animal viewings and everyone was special and stunning. And the most important thing is, I always felt save, even after a lion sighting when I wanted to lead the group out of the reeds and the young lion was close to my side 😊.

The WAL working group is just incredible and I miss everyone!

My time at Wait A Little by Tamara Kless:

What should I say?
There are no words which can describe this adorable time there! But let me try to give you a quick view into my 3 months stay.
When I arrived in December I met my first group of guests, who were very nice, but they left Wait A Little a view days after my arrival. Then we had a break for 3 weeks - my first thoughts: "what will I do the whole time?"
But it was actually a very nice way to becoming part of this lovely "family"! During the day we trained the young horses, had a sleeping-sunbathing siesta at the pool and ended the days with a movie evening! It was really not easy to choose a movie out of this huge collection!!
One day Gerti asked me to sit on this cute little pony, named "Spitfire" which arrived just 2 weeks before me. This was the moment I started to be a big fan of him. After I rode him a few times again he really started to trust me, so we went on our first wiggly (no, I make no clerical error! Wiggly is a word that belongs to the lovely Wait A Little language. So wiggly is just the name of a short outride through the bush without guests). Spitfire was very nervous when he saw his first giraffe, but he behaved very well.
The 3 weeks were over and new guests arrived. I felt like a newcomer. But I went with all my silly questions and "don't know what to do” moments to Clare (she's the stable manager from WAL) and she showed me everything. So I got used to the daily rhythm quiet fast.
At least one of the volunteers is riding back up. That means you join the group on trail and you have the possibility to see all those animals you know from tv... in reality... directly in front of you... on a horseback - how crazy is this?!
The other volunteers are training the horses with Gerti and Clare in the morning. That includes riding in the arena (getting great tips from Gerti), lunging and going on wiggles. In the afternoon, the other volunteer rides on trail when we do stable duties and sun downers in the bush for the guests.
These stunning days were finished with a relaxed evening and a 3 cause dinner - it was really delicious, I definitely have to make a diet now!
Afterwards I went to bed and sometimes had a dream about elephants pushing a tree or buffalos laying in the water.
In the end I had so much fun with Spitfire, I started to ride him on trail - have you ever sat on a horse who sees his first big male lion or elephants passing us pretty close? The most important rule is that the group stays together, so please don't start thinking about what would happen if Spitfire decided to run away... luckily he didn't.
It is just a great feeling to see how the young horses are getting better and better and how your work is appreciated!

A huge THANK YOU to the whole WAL team for your trust in my work and making the time fly. I will never forget this amazing experience.

Thoroughbreds are everywhere these days. On the track, off the track, in the ring, on the course, over the river and yes, through the woods like hot-blooded ATV’s. Just keep these high-strung, flighty critters out of the proverbial lions’ den, amiright?! Apparently not. (facebook/AfricanBigFiveHorse…
