Enhancing Guest Experiences through Universal Access 🌏

Universal access is a game-changer in the hospitality industry, significantly enhancing guest experiences. By accommodating diverse needs and preferences, hotels and resorts ensure that every guest enjoys a seamless and enjoyable stay.

Did you know that accessible room features, like wider doorways, grab bars, and adjustable fixtures, can make a world of difference for guests with disabilities? These thoughtful touches provide them with the autonomy to navigate their space effortlessly. Plus, inclusive amenities like wheelchair-accessible pools and restaurants ensure that everyone can enjoy all the services offered.

We understand that accessibility isn't just for guests with disabilities—it benefits everyone! Families with young children, elderly guests, and even those recovering from injuries will find these features incredibly convenient. This holistic approach to accessibility can lead to increased guest satisfaction, loyalty, and positive reviews, which are crucial for a hotel's reputation and success.😊

In summary, by embracing universal access, hotels and resorts can provide an exceptional experience for all guests. This commitment to inclusivity not only meets diverse needs but also fosters loyalty and positive word-of-mouth, driving long-term success in the competitive hospitality industry.

If you have any questions or need further assistance, feel free to reach out to us. We're always here to help!

At WTM Africa 2024, a crucial session delved into accessible tourism, addressing the need for inclusive travel experiences.

Highlighting the session's significance, experts discussed the challenges and opportunities in catering to travelers with disabilities. Briony Brookes, representing the City of Cape Town, shared insights from the city's "Limitless CT" initiative, emphasizing features like braille QR codes and audio options on the tourism website.

The session underscored the growing importance of accessibility in the travel industry as over 1 billion people worldwide, or 15% of the global population, live with disabilities, according to the World Health Organisation.

🔭Sharpened stones found in the Pinnacle Point caves in Mossel Bay are believed by archaeologists to have been made and used by prehistoric man as tools and there is currently a quest for the Pinnacle Point caves to be a World Heritage site, a fitting place for the Southern hemisphere’s longest mosaic tunnel.

🎨Created by Pinnacle Point Arts and Culture Association, this 50 meter long tunnel is a showpiece of the history of Mossel Bay, depicted in mosaic art. Vibrant colors, meaningful symbols and history are condensed within this space to take you the viewer on a journey.

Modern Mossel Bay emerges alongside the district’s storied past, the legacy of Bartolomeu Dias, the Khoisan Culture, the enigmatic Pinnacle Point Caves, and the ancient land of Gondwana.

🖼️Though not yet complete, part of the charm is getting to see the artists as they perfect their creation. Chrissie Olivier and Annemie Louw.two local artists have been charged with creating this memorable experience. When completed the tunnel will have 84 mosaic panel.

The tunnel leads to Eden Bay, where the most beautiful vista awaits those who completed the journey through the tunnel. Though the tunnel is accessible, once you reach the end of the tunnel there are steps down to Eden Bay.

17/11/2023

⛰️Known to be one of the oldest mountains in the world over 200 million years old, Table Mountain got its current name from Portuguese explorer Antonio de Saldanha who proudly named it , ‘Tabua do Cabo’, which means ‘Table of the Cape’.

But this was not the name given by the people who were indigenous to the land. Tens of thousands of years before South Africa was colonized the Khoi and San people called it, ‘Hoerikwagga’, which means, ‘Mountain in the Sea’.

🌄This name is more apt as the summit of Table Mountain was once at the bottom of the ocean, around 300 million years ago.

If you would like to experience the majesty of this mountain, there is no better way to experience it from the top.

🚠A quick cable car ride will get you to the top, once there you can take in the sights of Cape Town from above, go for a hike or leisurely walk on one of the many trails or you can have lunch at the restaurant which serves not only good views but good food too,

The cable car and Table Mountain is accessible to persons who use wheelchairs, including an accessible hiking trail and an accessible bathroom.

📍If you are coming to Cape Town and would like to experience this World Heritage Site and one of the Seven Wonders of the Natural World then give us a call and let us take you there.

09/11/2023

If you were to go on sight alone, you could easily mistake the cobbled stoned streets and colorful houses of this neighborhood to be in Murano, Italy. 🇮🇹🫢

However, if you closed your eyes and caught the smell of warm spices wafting through the air blown down the streets and heard the sound of the 'Adhan' on one of the five occasions that it calls Muslims to prayer during the day, you would be in none other than in Bo - Kaap, Cape Town. 🕌

On the foot of signal hill is the vibrant suburb of Bo - Kaap, a historical place for the birth of Islam in South Africa. 🇿🇦

Starting off as the first working class housing estate, Bo - Kaap is a product of Apartheid's geography. Between 1763 and 1768, Jan de Waal built several small “huurhuisjes” (rental houses) on this land, which he rented out to emancipated Muslim slaves and “free” blacks.

Residents complained of the filth, debauchery and the tough life they had under the government, often being whipped and burnt for disobedience.

In 1934 the Municipality declared the Malay Quarter a "slum" in terms of the slums act, because of the dilapidation of many of the homes.
The Bo - Kaap however, was more than a slum, it was a cultural melting pot of various ethnicities who lived in harmony with each other, striving to fight the harsh conditions they lived under.

Under the Groups Areas Act the suburb was further divided into the ' Malay Group Area' - Schotche Kloof for Muslims and a 'Coloured Group Area' - Schoone Kloof for non Muslims, with Table Mountain and the inner city reserved for Whites.

The rich history of the culture remains, interwoven with the Dutch heritage, the colorful houses symbolic of the restoration period which happened from the 1970's.

"Colour is therefore both symbols of an orientalist vision imposed on the community, but also of individual and group dignity, pride, and identity"

Unfortunately due to the location of the town, it is not the most accessible for people with mobility limitations. However, we would suggest a driven tour and a stop off at the Atlas spice market and Beismeillah Restaurant for a taste of the Cape Malay cuisine.

A Remarkable Experience! 🇦🇪🌍

Our hearts are still filled with awe after our first-time visit to the AccessAbilities Expo.

We proudly represented South African Tourism alongside Ximuwu and My Cherry Blossom Beauty, who provided locally-made kombucha. A huge shoutout to Afro Gem jewellers for their sponsored gem necklaces, which we gave away to 12 lucky people who visited our exhibition stand, including the South African Consul General, H.E. Tshepo Lebona.

It was an honor to experience this expo, and we're already looking forward to next year's event.
