Celebrating from the island — through the efforts of the Time + Tide Foundation, we focus on five main areas of conservation: monitoring of endangered sea turtles and nest protection, monitoring and conservation of tern colonies, long-term monitoring of coral reefs, Crowned Lemur conservation, and sustainable fisheries in Madagascar.

Every year on the 8th of June we join in celebrating this significant day aimed at raising awareness of the ocean and the absolute need to protect it. The reefs surrounding Miavana boast high coral cover and extremely diverse fish species, but face the threat of overfishing and climate change. Our marine conservation projects through the efforts of Time + Tide Foundation include turtle conservation, coral nurseries, MPA zoning and education among local communities and fishing associations about protecting the reefs and sustainable fishing techniques. Here’s to uniting to ensure that our oceans remain sanctuaries for marine creatures for generations to come.

Exciting news from the island — a baby lemur has been born! In early September, Time + Tide Foundation’s Lemur Rangers observed the first indications that the Female matriarch of our Crowned Lemur group in the North forest was pregnant and on the 25th of November, she gave birth. The gender of the little one will only be known in a few weeks as it needs enough time to develop its fur and other gender-defining characteristics. With the presence of a newborn, our incredible Lemur Rangers will be monitoring closely to ensure it develops into an independent individual. Video: Andrew Macdonald Photography.
