Yesterday morning the DWCTO was invited to attend one of the Kwazulu-Natal Philharmonic Education and Community Engagement initiatives, which took place at The Browns School in Pinetown.

The KZN Philharmonic Orchestra has been in existence for the last 41 years and at the heart of their work, the Orchestra has a comprehensive Education and Community Engagement Programme which incorporates an array of initiatives that bring the transformative power of music to communities in various locations around the province of KwaZulu-Natal.

We are so very grateful to be able to form part of such a wonderful initiative. “Music can change the world” - Beethoven

Can you believe we are just over a week away from the 3rd month of 2025, it is crazy how this year is flying. Last week Thursday, the DWCTO Committee sat down for their first meeting of the year with a fresh approach in mind.

In 2024 and into 2025, destination marketing has evolved significantly, driven by technological advancements and shifting traveller preferences. Today, it's no longer just about promoting attractions—it's about reimagining how destinations engage with travellers and contribute to their communities.

In an article published in BBC.com in partnership with Mastercard in March last year it mentions that ‘Travellers' motivations and preferences have evolved in the years following the pandemic, and they crave unique experiences and are increasingly purpose driven. A significant trend reflecting this shift, driven in part by generational changes, greater sustainability consciousness, and a growing emphasis on well-being, is consumers' preference to spend on experiences rather than material goods, with travel being the most favoured choice.’

It is for the above-mentioned trends in mind the committee is strategising innovative ways to promote the destination with the members interests at the forefront of all actionable activities.

Keep your eyes peeled to our social media account for the upcoming networking session for all DWCTO Members.

To all Tourism Stakeholders located within the Durban West Region and beyond. Here’s more than a couple of reasons why becoming a member of the Durban West Community Tourism Organisation would benefit your business, along with the 2024/2025 membership fees which are scheduled to increase on the 1st July 2025.

Who are we and what do we do? The Durban West Community Tourism Organisation (DWCTO) is a non-profit organisation recognised by KZN Tourism and Film Authority along with Durban Tourism. The aim of the DWCTO is to promote tourism products and attractions within the Western Region of Durban – from Tollgate to Tollgate.

This region offers its guests a great selection of tourist attractions, great hospitality and rich history. The location is ideal for travellers wanting to explore the greater Durban area as it lies in between the Durban Central area with it’s beaches, the North Coast, South Coast and the Valley of 1000 Hills.

Over recent years, the Durban West region has become the preferred destination for tourists & business travellers visiting Durban. There are many reasons for this, but to sum up why this is where visitors like to stay is that it is central to all the attractions Durban has to offer, the accommodation venues offer value for money and there are many business districts and opportunities to ‘shop until you drop’ in the area.

The Logo is that of the Mariannhill Trappist Monastery Campanile. Standing tall and erect this beautiful tower signifies a proud and visible beacon for hope, strength, unity and success.
