Early morning, 400m from Satara Camp entrance. These are the moments lived for. 3 Male Lions, 7 Females and 3 Cubs to start the day off.

My absolute favorite bird the Malachite Kingfisher (Alcedo cristata).

I'm always asked which my favorite bird is and my answer is always any bird that has 3 colors and less but is able to really pull them off like some of the Robin Chats or Violet Backed Starling etc. This bird however was my first piece of art when I was 8 and has always followed through life so I've grown a special affinity with it.

These beautiful mammals will forever be my personal favorites.here are a few reasons why....

Their ethogram library consists of 322 different behavior observed and documented.

They combined words with movements to create a wider vocabulary.

Thier rumbles at over 100 decibels can carry for 2km in case anyone gets lost.

The matriarch is able to single out 200 individuals just based on individual tone.

Each herd has a birth ceremony for every new born calf.

The generational knowledge passed down by a specific matriarch or bull is endless, hundreds of years of knowledge and experience... Just imagine that.

This is the local Shangaan tribes word for "Shadow" and is very apt for most of the Leopards and their behavior in the Kruger National Park.

Shy, secretive, dancing through the shadows around us. They are are always around but not always easy to see as they move through an almost invisible layer of savanna.

The Shangaan word is pronounced Shind-zoo-ti.
