African Fish Eagle - wow factors

âś“Mighty Hunter
âś“Brazen Scavenger

Fiercely territorial and a symbol of power, strength and freedom, this beauty can be found alongside rivers, creeks and dams.

In conjunction with a lion's roar and a hyena's whoop, the African Fish Eagle's cry is fondly known as the 'call of the wild".

It has an impressive wingspan of up to 2 meters and is mesmerizing to watch as it soars high in the skies. It's even more captivating to behold as it dives at tremendous speed, almost smashing the water surface as it grabs large fish with its powerful talons.

The fish eagle is as cunning as it is beautiful and is known to sn**ch a catch from other fishing birds, or even to prey on birds themselves.

Brown Snake Eagle - wow factors

âś“Master snake catcher

With its piercing yellow eyes and laser sharp focus, this handsome bird of prey is able to spot snakes, chameleons and lizards from wherever he's perched.

Even venomous snakes are no match for the power, speed and calculated tenacity of this bird. Although it primarily eats reptiles, snake eagles also eat smaller birds and small mammals too.

Classified as a 'least concern", Brown Snake Eagles are common in the Kruger Park.

Although listed as endangered in South Africa, there is always a good chance of seeing one or more of these magnificent birds in the Kruger.

They spend up to 8 hours a day soaring the skies, hunting for prey. They have the most phenomenal eyesight and can spot small mammas, rodents, snakes, chameleons etc from great heights.
In a single day they can cover an area of over 1000kms! That's more than just the entire length of the Kruger if it flew in a straight line.

Martial Eagle - wow factors

Enjoy any moment you might find one of these in the Kruger. Currently it is listed as an endangered species.
With an estimated home range of over 400 square kilometers, being at the right place and right time to spot one of these magnificent birds of prey is an absolute thrill.

Weighing in at about 6,5kgs it has "enough power in one foot to break a man's arm".
With an impressive wingspan of just over 6 feet, the Martial Eagle can fly at speeds of over 230kms per hour!
Its diet varies and includes fowls, other birds, small mammals and reptiles.
