Stonecrop Lodge is an earthy establishment set in natural bushveld surroundings, only minutes away from the Kruger National Park, the Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport, White River, Nelspruit and most of the attractions offered by this region. Hundreds of mostly indigenous trees, shrubs and plants were established on Stonecrop over the past seventeen years, providing a restful haven to the w

eary traveller. Mature trees are home to a large number of birds as well as bush babies and occasionally monkeys. We offer comfortable and affordable accommodation in five self-catering rooms called Jelly Beans, Cloud Nine, Gold Moss, Black Jack and recently added Stardust. All the rooms are equipped with a hair dryer, a heater, and either a fridge or a bar fridge as well as beverage making facilities. Butterfly is a charming en-suite garden cottage ideal for the business person needing a room for a night or two.

Pairs of the African Paradise Flycatchers are monogamous and they may even mate for life. They breed in summer, with both sexes working on the construction of the tiny cup-shaped nests using spider web and a variety of other fine natural materials. They are well adapted to riverine and open forests, woodlands or savannah habitats, and are regularly found in cultivated gardens in highly populated areas.

This is only one of 8 types of flycatchers found in our region and is definitely the prettiest of all the flycatchers. Flycatchers are perching (passerine) birds, sitting upright on their short legs on small branches hawking and catching flying insects in mid-air, or darting under foliage to glean tasty prey.

Their diet is not just limited to flies; they will eat many types of insects including beetles, moths, butterflies and various other prey items - even ants or spiders.

Stonecrop Lodge is a restful retreat on the edge of the bustling town of White River, bordering Mbombela (Nelspruit) in the Lowveld area of Mpumalanga, South Africa. Situated 42km from the Kruger National Park and 12km from the Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport, this earthy establishment offers the ideal base from where to explore the Lowveld with its many attractions. While the lodge is best suited to couples and business travelers, children thirteen and older are also welcome with their families. Accommodation consists of three uniquely decorated self-catering studio apartments in a stable-like configuration and two spacious apartments on the upper and lower level of a separate free-standing building. The five units each have a private entrance and are equipped with all basic amenities any guest could need for a comfortable stay. The gardens surrounding the buildings are sprawled under large trees where an abundance of bird species and smaller animals like the spectacular purple-crested turaco and Natal spurfowl, bush-babies (lesser and greater) as well as tree squirrels, make use of free accommodation and meals. A splash pool and koi dam offer coolness and tranquillity on hot summer days. At Stonecrop you may expect old-fashioned South African hospitality and a warm welcome from your hosts Alan and Leonora Williams.
