Come experience some of the diversity of South Africa on a 2-7 day horse-back tour. Ride through various farmlands nestled in the rolling hills of the Central Drakensberg and Northern Berg. Be careful not to bump into an Eland, Kudu or Giraffe as you explore private game farms and reserves. Hang on tight as you ford rivers and scramble up hills. Relax and take in the view of the magnificent Draken
sberg. Gaze across Spionkop Game Reserve, as you sit beneath a thorn tree on the top of the famous Spionkop Mountain. Learn about the Boer Wars as you ride through the hills where major battles took place. Climb the escarpment from Kwa-Zulu Natal into the Freestate along tracks that follow the routes of the Voortrekkers. Enjoy local hospitality and fire-side tales, excellent food and wonderful beds as we overnight at various Lodges, B&B's and Homesteads along the way. And if you are brave enough(and still have energy left), climb back onto your horse and ride beneath the light of a full moon. Day 1: Arrival - Get to know your horse. After arriving and settling in, we will take you to meet your horse. You will have a horse assigned to you for the duration of the tour, so the first day is all about teaming you up with the right horse and allowing you to get to know each other. For the less experienced, novice riders, day one will help you to gain confidence on and around your horse. We will go over some basic safety procedures, what-to-do's and what-not-to-do's, including catching your horse and saddling up. Day 2 and onwards - the trail:
Each day will start early as we will be riding approx 20-30km per day, depending on the route, and we want to avoid the heat of our African sun as much as possible. Each day will vary in route and scenery depending on your chosen tour as well as on season, but you can expect to cross rivers, climb hills and even mountains and ride through beautiful private game farms. During the heat of the day we will stop for a relaxed meal and refreshing drinks beneath shady trees, and where possible on the banks of a dam or river. Here you will be able to swim (sometimes even with the horses) and enjoy the exquisite scenery. As the shadows grow longer and the day starts cooling off, we will continue our trek to our overnight accommodation, where a hot shower and delicious meal await your arrival. Final day riding:
On the last day, travel arrangements permitting, we will have an early sunrise ride. After our ride, we will gather for a last meal together before saying good-bye.
