“Fantastic break on the river
We had a wonderful experience staying here. The views from the room/balcony are stunning, and the cottage itself had everything needed. Bed was super comfortable, braai/bbq was prepped by the staff every afternoon. River views, plenty of birds, the sound of hippos, it was all so relaxing. Lizzy was fantastic in helping to arrange the trip and was on hand for any questions we had. Totally recommend as an escape, but also plenty of options to do activities.“

Kayube River Estate - a real life Out of Africa story

In the early nineties a Bavarian countess fell in love with this part of Zambia and built the original River House on stilts within metres of the Zambezi River. Once she was satisfied, after several years, that it remained far enough from the water even during floods, she built the downstairs area which is now rented out to guests. It forms part of a variety of accommodation options at Kayube (which means 'hide away' in the local Toka Leya language), managed by Karien Kermer and built by her late husband Peter. Karien has a loyal team who look after the estate and their typical Zambian friendliness will leave a lasting impression on you - and will have you coming back again! Just like the countess who still spends much time here.
