Lusaka, Zambia – May 6, 2025 – In a major boost for regional travel and trade, Zambia’s Minister of Transport and Logistics, Hon. Museba Frank Tayali, has welcomed plans by the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to launch direct Air Congo flights between Kinshasa and Lusaka.
This announcement came during a high-level diplomatic engagement, as Ms. Isabella Kibassa Tshisekedi, roving ambassador and representative of DRC President Felix Tshisekedi, paid a courtesy visit to Hon. Tayali at the ministry’s headquarters in Lusaka.
Hon. Tayali highlighted that the upcoming direct flights will significantly ease travel between the two nations, noting that the DRC’s vastness makes it a key market for Zambian goods—particularly Zambian beef, which can now be efficiently transported by air.
“Zambia is keen to tap into the DRC beef market, much of which is currently sourced from Argentina,” said Hon. Tayali.
Ambassador Tshisekedi echoed the sentiment, stating that both countries share a united vision of economic collaboration and regional connectivity. She also revealed that she had briefed President Hakainde Hichilema on the upcoming One Stop Border Post (OSBP) being constructed at the Kasumbalesa border to further facilitate trade and movement.
“We are excited that Air Congo will soon fly directly into Lusaka, bringing our nations even closer,” Ms. Tshisekedi added.
This development marks a significant step in strengthening Zambia-DRC ties, promising enhanced mobility, trade, and mutual growth.
