1. The Kariba Dam is located on the Zambezi River, bordering Zambia and Zimbabwe.

2. Construction began in 1955 and ended in 1959, commissioned by the British colonial government.

3. It's one of the world's largest man-made reservoirs, spanning over 5,400 square kilometers.

4. The dam is a hydroelectric power station, contributing significantly to Zambia's electricity supply.

5. Its height is approximately 128 meters (420 feet) and it spans 579 meters (1,900 feet).

6. It generates power to Zambia with potential of exports.

7. The dam formed Lake Kariba, home to diverse wildlife, enhancing local ecotourism.

8. It was designed by the French engineer André Coyne, known for arch dams.

9. Kariba Dam has faced structural concerns, requiring extensive maintenance and rehabilitation.

10. The dam's creation displaced many Tonga people, sparking controversies over human rights.
