Most of game drive safari activity in Zambia, Malawi, Botswana and Zimbabwe are undertaken in an open safari vehicle, with a driver / safari guide who has extensive experience and intimate knowledge of the area, and is an expert on game movement and other ecological aspects of the region. Game drives usually depart in the early morning and late afternoon when it is cooler, for game to hunt and graze, so there is a better chance of encountering abundant wildlife. There are also exciting night game drives where you can witness fascinating nocturnal animals.
Most game viewing activities take place in the early morning and late afternoon, which maximize the chance of encountering animals when they are most active. In the warmer months most animals find shelter during the heat of the day. The greatest opportunity to see a Lion is usually just after sunrise. This safari is geared more towards the canoeing enthusiast who is looking for an added element of excitement. This is the only trip of its kind in Zambia that takes one through the entire length of the floodplains of the Lower Zambezi to the remote Mupata Gorge before ending at the confluence of the Zambezi and Luangwa Rivers. On this safari clients can explore the numerous back channels of the Zambezi along with spectacular basalt rock formations of the Mupata Gorge as the river winds its way towards the Indian Ocean. As these trips involve more detailed organization, they only depart on a few selected dates every year or on request for group bookings.

On arrival at Blantyre International Airport your guide will meet you. The drive to Mkulumadzi is approximately 2.5hours through colourful local scenes of villages, agriculture, as well as bush. The camp is located on the confluence of the Shire and Mkulumadzi River; within Majete Wildlife Reserve, 70km South West of Blantyre – Southern Malawi.
Majete is Malawi’s only Big 5 Reserve and also one of the largest protected areas, and covers an area of over 70,000ha. The reserve is located within the Miombo woodland ecoregion and much of the higher lying areas in the west of the park are dominated by Miombo/Brachystegia woodland. Mixed Combretum woodlands and mosaics of riparian forest can be found in the East of Majete.
