Zambian Women With Skills Organisation

Zambian Women With Skills Organisation The Organisation is currently leading a revolutionary change in the way women perceive traditional occupation. We understand that women are nurturers.

As an Organisation, we act like a Womb that incubates the Entrepreneurial & Leadership capacities of local Women & Girls, in order to help them achieve their Developmental Goals. The Zambian Women With Skills Organisation, is a leading revolutionary Non profit Organisation which was founded by 2017 Mandela Washington Fellow, Bwalya Witika in 2014 and was officially incorporated under the societies

act on 26th August 2016. Over the years, the Zambian mainstream Education system has undergone various reforms, all of which have been in theory, an attempt to institutionalise skills training (particularly vocational skills) as part of the learning process. Practically however, the focus remains hugely on the glorification of Academic Training over Skills Training. A hugely disadvantageous system which tends to limit or stifle the creative abilities of most learners. As an organisation, we believe in the creative ability of practical skills. Through this quality, women, are able to identify and hone a practical skill steadily building it up into a sustainable income generating tool. As an Organization therefore, we exist primarily to provide relevant tools, resources and networks to help local girls and women achieve their developmental goals, through Skills Training, Mentorship, Entrepreneurship, Networking, Promotion and Co-operation. We help women to understand their limitless potential, and how they can make a meaningful contribution to the developmental agenda of their individual communities and country, through the utilization of practical skills. Who We Serve. Our main service is the provision of skills identification and training to 3 kinds of Women:

1. The Educated/Semi Educated Woman who has a skill and is in formal employment but with no job fulfilment and would like a smooth transition into the business world.

2. The Uneducated/Semi Educated woman that has a skill but with no proper knowledge of how to translate the skill into a sustainable income.

3. The Educated/ Uneducated woman that has no idea what skill they have or which skill to work on. How We Help.

1. We facilitate self-discovery sessions/ skills Identification Sessions.
2. We facilitate Business Model Trainings.
3. We provide customised Mentorship packages.
4. We initiate communication links with people or organisations of relevance.
5. We provide Legal Aid across a variety of topics.
6. We do skills promotion according to individual women’s needs.
7. Basic Literacy training.
8. We provide social interaction services.
9. Psycho-social Counselling. (T’s and Cs Apply). How You Can Help. Women contribute largely to poverty reduction at household level and creation of micro enterprises at national level as such, empowering them with life sustaining skills ensures that they are not only contributing to the sustainability of the resources at family level, but also playing a vital role in the overall national economic cycle. Empowered women are emancipated women, who become 10 times better at making more informed decisions with regards to their health, emotions and economic wellbeing. You can help us reach out to more women by contributing your time, your resources, expertise as well as providing us with leads to people of interest that these women may be able to benefit from. Your Private donations in monetary form also contributes greatly to the success of ZWWS. Without your generous donations, we would not be able to reach out to more women, especially those in the more rural communities, women that benefit greatly from the work that we do. Do you Wish to Become a Volunteer? You can help further our cause by Volunteering in the following ways:
1. Skills Trainer – You can contact us to register as an expert in your field and volunteer your knowledge by teaching your skill to some women.

This years' theme of “Inspire Inclusion” resonates with the essence of women’s empowerment, emphasizing the importance of skills development as a pathway to sustainable progress.

Yesterday the 24th of May 2023, our Projects Coordinator, Ms Susan K Phiri, while in the company of other stakeholders, attended a planning meeting organized by The Zambia Food Bank at the Global platform Zambia office.

The Food Bank intends to work with the Zambian Women With Skills Organization with regards to the introduction of back yard gardens to enable community members have access to fresh organic food.

As part of the proposed program, the participants will also be trained in best practices in food and Nutrition, seeing as the demographic to be worked with hail from a predominantly rural area which according to research, is a fairly neglected topic in such areas.

Another proposed key area of training will be on clean water and sanitation methods, such as simple but effective water initiatives to assist community members who still struggle each day to have clean & safe water for daily use and also to help curb water pollution of both underground and surface water.

Exposure to such information will help raise awareness on issues to do with water in rural the different underserved communities.

Apart from Ms. Phiri, others in attendance were Allie Wilson -a food recovery and rescue specialist working with *Means Data base* USA. Ruth Ngoma - Scientists, Entrepreneurship and partner.Enock Mwewa -Founder of the Zambia Food Bank, as well as Eric a young Zambian Farmer who only grows organic Foods with no chemicals or fertilisers.

SUSTAINABLE WOMEN'S ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT PROJECT (SWEEP). "INCLUSION EDITION."

Our ZWWS SWEEP (Inclusion Edition) women are back in session for the second part of the Project, which will see them acquire basic Tailoring skills, as well as tailoring start up packages and certificates at the end of this training cycle.

This US funded project which was launched late last year 2022, is a community initiative that seeks to help contribute to the rebalancing of the existing social and economic hierarchies in different communities in Zambia, through vocational skills empowerment for women.

The project which was piloted in 2018 with trainees drawn from Lusaka's Ngombe Compound, follows an implementation model that can be replicated in other underserved communities similar to the project pilot community.

The skills empowerment trainings offered through this project are therefore an attempt to catalyse business action for women’s empowerment, and deliver value for vocational business skills by developing high-impact women’s empowerment strategies, driving social and economic progress for women at both community and national levels.

All the 20 women with speech impairments that are undergoing this training, were selected from different communities within Lusaka through our partner organisation i.e. the Zambia National Association of the Deaf (ZNAD) which is already on the ground within the community, actively working with the demographic in question.

We are hopeful that the combination of the skills acquired, plus the start-up material, will help the women set up a small business and in turn, effectively contribute to the overall economic cycle of their communities.

We remain committed to “Changing the lives of Zambian women, one woman at a time.”

INTERNATIONAL WOMENS DAY 2023.

As the world commemorates International Women's Day, today the 8th of March 2023,we remain alive to the fact that the barriers that continue to hinder women from making progressive contributions to the wellbeing of every society, continue to be perpetuated in different degrees.

This year, the theme for the celebration is innovation and technology for gender equality, according to DigitALL. Given this theme, it is an opportunity for us as an Organization to reflect on the progress that has been made so far towards gender equality, as well as the work still needed to ensure that women have equal opportunities and rights in not just the tech space, but all areas of life.

We remain commited to, "changing the lives of Zambian Women, one woman at a time."

2022 ZWWS ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING (AGM).

This morning the 10th of December 2022, we once again held our Annual General Meeting, the 6th edition since our official registration as an Organisation from back in the year 2016.

As we look ahead with a clearly defined strategic direction, and sustainability plan shared within the AGM, we are excited and hopeful of more wins for us, as an Organization in the next five years.

We continue to explore ways of enriching the lives of Zambian women and girls through skills identification and training.

16 DAYS OF GENDER ACTIVISM - OUR MESSAGE.

As the world kicked off activities directed towards 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence on the 25th of November 2022, as an Organization we are glad to add to the many other voices that are being raised against the vice.

While the parameters of our work dictate that our focus be on skills capacity building for local women and girls,we remain alive to the fact that in order for our work to be fully effective, we would need to take on a holistic approach of ensuring that our chosen demographic is physically and psychologically sound, as much as they would be acquiring a practical skills for their economic emancipation.

As an Organization therefore, we join the rest of the world in speaking up against the violence that is directed towards women and girls in all forms as this is a flagrant violation of their human rights. We therefore call upon fathers and patriachs within individual homes to begin to get more involved in changing the current narrative, by begining to teach their sons empathy towards women and equality of the sexes as one way of helping to break the cycle of violence.
We remain commited to "changing the lives of Zambian Women one woman at a time."

SWEEP PROJECT PARTICIPANT TESTIMONIALS.

Her name is Nsamwa Mwanza and as a good and practical student, she has quickly found her place in the food industry by leveraging the skills she picked up under the catering training, plus the start up package of baking materials given to her, to begin her entrepreneurship journey. With the Materials given to her, Nsamwa was able to bake her first 2 cakes post training, and sold them for K1, 000.

As an Organization, we are extremely excited for her, as she commences her enterprenural journey, and can not wait to see her contribution to the economic narrative of her individual community.

To our major partners the U.S. Embassy Zambia ,we say thank you for the generous funding and support recieved to carry out this Project.

We remain commited to "changing the lives of Zambian Women one woman at a time."

RED FLAME 2022 COHORT SKILLS TRAINING SESSION.

Photo Story: Our Red Flame troopers were back in session as they joined us today for their last skills training in their 1 year Program with us which came to an end today. We are definitely sad to let them go, but our hearts are extremely full, as we've definitely had an enlightening and fulfilling time with them.

We can not thank our volunteer trainer Jeremiah Assegai - Zambia enough, for this very practical and hands-on training that he was gracious enough to deliver to the girls.

We remain greatful to all our Project partners for this Red Flame Initiative, as it is through your continued support that we are able to continue to sustain the work that we do through this Project.
