Happy heavenly independence day Mummy Norah Kembo, I remember that day in 1969 when i was in grade 2 and going home from school called Shungu Native school which was opposite Maramba Welfare in Livingstone (we called it wolofeya), I was in my green uniform dress with a belt that was sewn in the centre at the back and buttoned in front. You and other mother's with babies on their backs were jumping onto a lorry at Wolofeya to go and attend a UNIP meeting somewhere. These were the days after Independence, days of Mbaula when UNIP and ANC were having skirmishes in Maramba compound especially in MB we lived in MA No. 171, Seventh Street. I also remember your stories of how you and other mother's used to go and throw political stones, how you and other mother's used to go and protest at the muzungu's butchery against buying meat through the window.
Then again I remember between 1970 and 1973 you my Mummy Norah hosting numerous Chimurenga meetings of the Zanu freedom fighters against Rhodesia's Ian Smith in our house at M.A. 171 Seventh Street Livingstone. I remember my siblings and all our friends playing outside and dancing to the (Chimurenga) liberation shona songs being sung by you and your fellow Rhodedians. I remember after your meetings our friends and us would be given all the leftover biscuits (milk biscuits) cakes, scones, fantas, cocoa colas, pen colas and many more. Our house radiogram would pound the neighbourhood with Chirurenga music and Rumba.
Today on Zambia's 59th independence day, I wish you my Mummy for your liberation sacrifices for both Zambia and Zimbabwe a Heavenly celebration. May you continue RIP mother, I love and miss you and your energy against injustice.
