A LUXURY, LIVING

At Lion Camp, luxury isn’t about opulence — it’s about feeling.

It’s the stillness. The space. The energy of being somewhere that doesn’t ask for your attention, but gently holds it.

We’re here to give you the space to let go — to step out of the world you know, and into one that moves at nature’s pace.

From the moment you arrive, your room becomes your sanctuary. A place to rest, reflect, and simply be.

A place to digest the moments — the sightings, the silence, the feeling of being deeply connected to something wild and real.

IT’S CALLED LION CAMP FOR A REASON

Before it was a lodge, this spot was a ranger post — and it was Norman Carr who first named it Lion Camp.

He believed lions would one day reclaim this part of the valley. He was right.

Today, the lodge sits on that same ground, and the name couldn’t be more fitting. The River Pride and the nomads are often seen right out front — crossing the floodplains, resting near the water, and at times even moving through the lodge itself.

At Lion Camp, lions aren’t just a sighting — they’re part of the landscape.

Buffaloes at breakfast.

Guests at Lion Camp witnessed close to a thousand buffalo coming down to drink from the floodplain at their hot breakfast after game drive.

We’re lucky to have these massives herds hang around the area during peak dry season.

WHERE DAYS BEGIN AND END

From the private deck of your suite at Lion Camp, time feels different.

The Oxbow Lagoon lies quiet below, its curves etched into the dry floodplain like memory. Golden light spills across the valley, catching the last clouds of the day — or the first, depending on when you step out.

At sunrise, the air is crisp. You might hear a fish eagle call, or the soft rustle of hooves in the distance.
At sunset, it’s warmer — the sounds deepen. Frogs begin to stir. Elephants often pass like silhouettes, and the bush settles into its dusky hum.

Whether you’re greeting the day with a coffee in hand, or closing it with a glass of wine, the view from here never repeats — but it always remains wild, raw, and deeply still.

This is not just a view. It’s a front-row seat to the rhythm of the Luangwa.

HEART OF THE CAMP

At the center of the wild, Lion Camp’s main lodge beats with a quiet, steady rhythm — a place where days begin, stories are shared, and nights linger a little longer.

Here, guests gather for light, refreshing lunches under open skies, and hearty breakfasts that greet the rising sun.
By evening, the atmosphere softens — candlelight flickers across wooden decks, the fire crackles low, and conversations weave between the glow of the bar and the warmth of the fireside.

It’s where adventures are recounted over a glass of wine, where laughter carries into the night, and where the stillness of the bush feels just a little closer.

The main lodge isn’t just a space — it’s a feeling.
A place to slow down, to connect, and to experience the soul of Lion Camp, one golden moment at a time.

COOL, CALM & COLLECTED

At Lion Camp, the heartbeat of every game drive begins long before sunrise—deep in the workshop, where a dedicated team ensures that everything runs smoothly. Among them is Senad, one of the key members of our workshop team, a group that truly serves as the backbone of camp operations.

Cool, calm, and always composed, Senad shares the same relentless commitment as the rest of the workshop crew—working through the night if needed to keep our vehicles in motion. In a place where the wild tests every piece of equipment, their skill and dedication keep the rhythm of the bush flowing seamlessly for guests and guides alike.

Today, we highlight Senad, but this is also a salute to the entire workshop team—quietly working behind the scenes, ensuring that every guest’s safari experience is uninterrupted and unforgettable.

RAW INTENSITY

The wild is relentless. Every moment is a battle, every breath a fight for survival. Even in stillness, something simmers—a predator’s gaze locked on its next move, the unspoken violence of a world where hesitation means death. The wild does not wait. It takes.

A lioness moves with purpose, her instincts sharpened by generations of survival. She is not hunting, not fighting, but bound in something just as primal. The male approaches—dominance in every step, power in every breath. Their bodies collide in fire and fury. This is not love. It is legacy.

And when it’s done, she turns on him—snarling, swiping, reclaiming her ground. Because even in creation, there is conflict. Even in intimacy, there is war. In the wild, intensity never fades.

A Life Unbound

Ilse Mwanza was never one to follow the beaten path—she carved her own through the heart of Africa, with the hum of an old Land Rover beneath her and the wild wind in her hair. She was a woman of adventure, a legend of her time, unapologetic in her love for this land, relentless in her pursuit of its beauty. From the valleys to the escarpments, from the great rivers to the endless savanna, she moved with purpose, finding home not in walls, but in the soil beneath her feet.

Lion Camp was one of her greatest loves—a place she returned to, time and time again, drawn by the untamed spirit of South Luangwa. It was here, in July 2024, that she made her final pilgrimage, knowing deep in her bones that this would be her last. With a quiet grace, she greeted the staff, shared stories beneath the ancient trees, and let the golden dust of the valley settle on her skin one last time.

On February 25, 2025, Ilse’s journey came to an end, but her spirit remains woven into the wilderness she adored. She is the soft rustle of the mopane leaves, the first light on the river, the distant call of the fish eagle at dusk. She will not only be remembered—she will be felt, in every quiet moment where Africa stands still and breathes.
