Early this month, I visited Milenge’s Mumbotuta Falls. The falls are a marvel to watch. Pictures don’t quite capture the mystic and appeal of these falls; most photos, including mine, give the impression that it’s just a set of rapids when, in fact, it’s a majestic waterfall.

For all those visiting Mansa and Samfya, don’t forget to take a day trip to Mumbotuta. Our ancestors, such as Mwansa Nkumba, Champe Chilufya, and K***a Mpanda, once walked these grounds.

Lake Mweru is located on the far north-western border of Zambia, and we share the lake with the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Lake Mweru is fed by two main rivers, the Kalungwishi River and the Luapula River. Both river mouths form important deltas that serve as fish breeding grounds.

Lake Mweru has a total shore line of just over 430KM, a maximum length of 130Km and a maximum width of 56KM.

Lake Mweru doesn’t change much in level and area throughout the year. The annual fluctuation in level, is less than 2 meters.

Lake Mweru is shallow in the south and deeper in the north, with two depressions in the north-eastern section. It has a maximum depth of 27 meters.

The shores of Lake Mweru are absolutely stunning, white sand beaches which beautifully contrast with the deep blue waters and radiant picturesque skies.

In terms of pure natural beauty, very few places can rival Lake Mweru

Have you ever been to Chisenga Island on Lake Mweru?
This is Maldives in South Asia. The cost of visiting the Island is between $3000 to $6000 per week. If we can bring it to Chilubi or Chisenga Island on lake Bangweulu or Lake Mweru, this is an investment that can greatly contribute to our national budget.
Let's start thinking big and make moves.

Samfya has a lot of potential for tourism but needs more facilities to be able to attract more attention. Things like:

1. A zoo like Munda wanga in Lusaka
2. A shopping mall for visitors convenience because most people who visit the Samfya prefer staying in Mansa simply because of the shopping mall
3. Samfya needs something like helicopter rides like in Livingstone for people to appreciate how big the lake is, and possibly reach Chilubi Island for adventure

Otherwise the beach and lake alone are not enough. We need more than just the beach and nice hotels.

LUAPULA PROVINCE HAS POTENTIAL FOR BEE🐝 KEEPING AS AN ALTERNATIVE INCOME GENERATING ACTIVITY BESIDES FISHING

Meet obrain siaziyu a Kabwe based youth entrepreneur who ventured into bee keeping and extracting honey.

Obrain siaziyu is also a supplier of bee hives or bee boxes, including all the basic equipments tools and materials needed for beekeeping, these include protective full suits to protect your body during harvest, smokers, honey press machines, bee wax to attract the bees, and swarm boxes for those want to transfer the bees from one place to another and to devide the bee colony.

BREAKING NEWS: MINI HEP TO BE CONSTRUCTED AT KABWELUME FALLS BETWEEN KAPUTA AND NCHELENGE DISTRICTS IN LUAPULA PROVINCE.

A validation meeting held on Tuesday April 30th, 2024 at the Nchelenge Council chambers where ZESCO presented their plans to the stakeholders revealed that plans have already reached an advanced stage and the project is scheduled for ex*****on beginning 2025. The project, valued at $820Million will see the construction of a dam along the Kalungwishi river, a primary and secondary school, a clinic, a police post and a bridge to connect Nchelenge and Kaputa districts on the river among other developments.

The new plant will add about 150MW to the national grid and will increase power supply to the province and nation at large. This will promote the manufacturing, mining and processing industries due to the increased power supply. The whole project is scheduled to take a period of 4 years and all things being equal, the project will be commissioned by 2029.

At the same meeting, Nchelenge DAO Mr Katele Lengwe also announced that a solar power station to supply 5MW is scheduled for construction by the Rural Electrification Authority (REA) within Nchelenge CBD. The project is valued at $6.03485Million and will take 12 months to be completed.

The stakeholders were excited with the news and requested that implementation works begin as soon as possible.

In response to the upgrading of Mansa Airport, Songwe M Chalwe writes:

"We don’t need that upgrade of an airport currently because it’s not urgent to have a very big airport without having tourism attraction or significant infrastructure or development that will attract people to use the airport. We need the conference center in Samfya, industries, universities and more. Then upgrade the airport later."
