DID YOU KNOW?

The tallest mountain⛰️ in Zimbabwe🇿🇼, Mt. Nyangani (2,592 metres or 8,504 feet), is the source of 3 rivers🌊 of hydrological significance. The 3 rivers are: the Pungwe🌊, the Kairezi (Gairezi)🌊 and the Nyamuziwa🌊.

The Pungwe River🌊 rises at the foot of Mt. Nyangani⛰️ and flows southwards through Nyanga National Park🏞️ before dropping ~240 m into the densely wooded Pungwe Gorge forming the multi-tiered Pungwe Falls. It later empties into the Indian Ocean🌊 in Mozambique🇲🇿.

The Kairezi🌊 and the Nyamuziwa🌊 rivers flow northward later joining the Mazowe river which ultimately flows into the Zambezi River. The Kairezi also flows through the resort town🏘️ of Nyanga.

Species endemic to the area include the African clawless otter (Upper Kairezi) and the Inyangani river frog🐸. Other faunal species of note directly or indirectly dependent on these rivers include the reedbuck🦌, klipspringer🦌, blue duiker🦌, kudu🦌, samango monkeys🐒, trouts🐟 and various bird🐦 species. This river system also actively supports wide expanse of grasslands🌱, dense🌲 and sparse🌳 woodlands🌴.

Livingstone's Turaco - what a sight to behold! 🤩

🦢 Its spectacular green colouring shows large crimson wing patches in flight.

Usually found in forest and dense woodland, these turacos act like any typical turaco, bouncing through the trees and flying occasionally with short bursts of wingbeats and long glides, and flashes of colour!
