THE RURAL EXPO by Rural BnB is an annual expo to unlock some deep and meaningful conversations, presentations and discussions around rural development. The online expo will have 3 days from 25 to 27 August focussing on Past, Present and Future for each respective day.

Day 1 - Past (storytellers)
Centres on the story tellers, where we have curated amazing stories to help us understand what happened to our narrative.

Day 2 - Present (urban-rural)
Centres on Urban to Rural. This second day helps us look at the implications of good ideas on our rural landscape. Are we planning well for the increase in Urban to Rural Development or are we just bringing Cities into our Villages?

Day 3 - Future (futurists)
We look at some really out there visions of the future of Rural Development. This gives us a place to start regarding future proofing our villages and advancing our cultures.

As the CEO of Rural BnB I have been travelling extensively around Zimbabwe and SADC on a mission to build a framework that will largely inform establishing Rural Development on the continent. In this article, we will delve into the 10 key components that make up a smarter, greener African village, paving the way for a more sustainable future.

1. Renewable Energy Sources

Access to clean and affordable energy is crucial for rural development. Implementing renewable energy systems such as solar panels and mini-hydropower plants can provide reliable electricity to power homes, schools, and small businesses. This reduces dependence on fossil fuels, promotes energy efficiency, and helps combat climate change.

2. Sustainable Agriculture Practices

Agriculture is the backbone of most African villages.
