Meet Evan Skjel, the skilled and dedicated Photography Coordinator at and . 🔥💯👣
Hailing from Canada, Evan began his career as an engineer, investigating optics, photonics, and photovoltaic systems. This inspired him to pursue his passion for photography. 📸📷🎥🤳

"My background as an engineer has helped me on the technical side of photography such as editing, file handling, and camera settings," he said.
Evan leads our photography participants on the 'Wildlife Photography Internship' in the field, and his tutoring allows them to improve their technical skills with their cameras and Light-room Classic.
Evan joined us as a participant on our Wildlife Photography Internship program last year and came back to us for a 6 month placement as a Photography Coordinator to further his career. He is a very valuable addition to the team and a fantastic photographer and teacher! 😃🤗📸🌳🐾👣

These rare species are located in the southern parts of the African continent - Angola, Namibia, Botswana, and Southern and Western Zimbabwe.🌍🇦🇴🇳🇦🇧🇼🇿🇼
They communicate primarily through scent and are less noisy than the spotted hyenas. They may also survive in metropolitan environments, but they require some shelter to rest throughout the day. 🐾🐾🐾
Udubo made himself a tunnel that he hides in during the day and emerges at night.🌳👣🐾

Ostriches are known for their speed and ability to defend themselves with their muscular legs. Their deadly kicks can even discourage the most dangerous predators. 🐾🐾🐾
Their blows may produce a force of around 141 kilograms per square inch. Combined with its sharp, 10-cm talons, the ostrich possesses a formidable weapon capable of hurting or killing lions. 🥋🥋

Last week, EDU Africa brought to , as they embarked on an unforgettable journey into conservation and cultural immersion with . 👣🐾🌳
Our unique educational program aimed to equip participants with essential bush survival skills, conservation efforts, and delve into local village life. The program kicked off with intensive training in bush survival skills. Students learnt crucial techniques on how to navigate the wilderness without a compass, react to encounters with dangerous wildlife, and handle emergencies such as snakebites. 🌳🦁🐍
Participants also engaged with traditional practices, showcasing the intricate relationship between local communities and their natural environment. A highlight of the program was the Vulnerable Tree Wrapping, where students actively participated in protecting trees from damage caused by human and wildlife conflict. This hands-on conservation effort underscored the importance of sustainable practices in preserving Zimbabwe`s rich biodiversity. 🌳🌳🌳
In addition to conservation activities, students immersed themselves in the Umuzi Royal Experience, gaining insights into the daily life and traditions of local villagers. From learning how to cook sadza, Zimbabwe`s staple food, to engaging in cultural exchanges, the experience fostered a deeper appreciation for Zimbabwean heritage and community resilience. ⛺🌳👣

Educational talks were pivotal, featuring discussions on anti-poaching and raptures. These sessions provided invaluable insights into wildlife conservation challenges and ongoing efforts to protect endangered species.🦅🐒
Beyond learning and conservation, the students also demonstrated their commitment to community service by volunteering at Mummy’s Angels, an initiative supporting disadvantaged mothers. This showcased their dedication to making a positive impact.😊♥️

On July 8th, we bid farewell to Kiki and Tsoko after their extended stay with us. As , we are thrilled to announce that Kiki and Tsoko have left Fuller Forest to join their kind at . Although it was a bittersweet release due to the strong bonds formed, this is a natural part of our commitment to conservation.🌳🐵🐒

The crowned eagles are threatened by trappings, shootings and nest destructions - due to wildlife-human conflict and habitat destruction from trees being cut down or forests being felled. 🦅🦅🦅
These issues make it difficult for this species to find food, causing a decline in their population. 🦅🌳🌿

Crowned eagles are the most powerful eagles in Africa. A crowned eagle is able to kill animals weighing up to 20 kilograms🙀🤯😱😲🦅.

To make sure our lions are in tip-top health, we have routine vaccinations and de-worming! We, as Victoria Falls Wild Hub, group and got to observe and assist a Local veterinarian while he was treating our lions. For this session we were rabies vaccinating and de-worming. 💉💊🦁
The vaccine is given through a pole syringe - we have to distract the lions so that the vet can inject them. After that they get a piece of meat that has been injected with the de-wormer. 🦁🌿🌳
Vaccinations in animals are efficient in preventing the transmission and spread of contagious animal diseases (zoonotic diseases) from animals to people and from animals to animals. Vaccines help the immune system to fight infections faster and more effectively. 💉💊

Last week we had a visit from Purdue University for their 'Veterinary Medicine Global Engagement' program, designed by our partner EDU Africa. 🌍🌳🌿📖📚

What a transformative learning journey it was - the group`s programme focused on conservation and wildlife management. Exploring human-wildlife conflict concerns helped students to adopt comprehensive approaches to veterinary practice and conservation, improving ecosystem health and human-nature coexistence - helping humans and animals alike by creating and maintaining equilibrium between the community, wildlife, conservation , education and culture ,
- also using scientific and veterinary techniques to tackle wildlife management problems ,

The species is not threatened, but human population pressure has increased contact between humans and baboons causing the populations to become persecuted and treated as a pest.🙉

"WILDLIFE" is one of the 4 pillars of the Victoria Falls Wild Hub brand.
On Fuller Forest Conservation Area our long-term plans are to rehabilitate the land to improve the wildlife populations that have been poached and hunted. We are currently working towards that by conducting various wildlife research projects, protecting vulnerable trees, supporting Forestry Commission with anti-poaching and of course taking in and caring for animals in our wildlife sanctuary!
All of the work at Victoria Falls Wild Hub is centralised by the core of "WILDLIFE".

At Victoria Falls Wild Hub we believe in the transformative power of learning, serving, and stewarding the natural world toward a better future.

We dedicate our time to several projects within and around the Fuller Forest Conservation Area.

Our projects involve forest maintenance and management, together with wildlife research, to transform the area into a thriving ecosystem. Historically, the greater Fuller Forest Area was, and still is, used for commercial hunting and illegal activities such as poaching of wildlife, trees, and resources. Our goal is to transform this land into a protected wilderness area.

Introducing Victoria Falls Wild Hub (VFWH), an organisation that offers transformative education for individuals, students and faculty-led groups just outside of Victoria Falls City. We are dedicated to influencing the way people learn about wildlife conservation through visits to our Wildlife Sanctuary and various on site wildlife-based programs!

VFWH is based in Fuller Forest, where we manage 4,000 acres of this land which is a key buffer area between National Parks and local communities. VFWH exists to facilitate efficient conservation efforts for the Fuller Forest land, wildlife, and people in and around the area. We are committed to transforming it to its former pristine condition through various initiatives and changing it from a former hunting area into a conservation area. Victoria Falls Wild Hub is more than a place; it is a hub for restoration, wildlife care, conservation and education. Join us on our journey as we write a new chapter for the Fuller Forest Conservation Area.
