Memories of Africa

Memories of Africa We are a small team of travel professionals who take great pride in our personal service.

We are in the very fortunate position of not only having travelled to, but also lived in some of the most spectacular places in Southern Africa. We know the areas well, have local knowledge and have made wonderful contacts and friends throughout the travel industry and can assure you of the very best service country-wide. We have lived in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, Noordhoek, Cape Town, Knysna and

Salt Rock, Durban. We have also lived in the UK for 7 years so understand the UK traveller's needs (and that spiders and creepy crawlies are not high on the agenda!) We want our clients to leave Africa having had the very finest, most extraordinary experience with the desire to come back and make more memories! We have first hand knowledge of, and visited, rustic, family resorts and luxury five star resorts alike, so whatever your ideal holiday is and at whatever budget you have, we can certainly come up with a wonderful itinerary to suit you! Our personal favourites include; Victoria Falls Safari Lodge, Little Makalolo in Hwange, Chobe Game Lodge in Botswana, Phinda in Kwa-Zulu Natal, Pezula in Knysna, Fancourt in George, 12 Apostles in Cape Town, The Hermanus, St Bernards Peak Mountain Lodge in the Drakensburg, and we haven't even scratched the surface - there are still so many exciting places to visit and explore!

A “must do” activity in Victoria Falls is a visit to the Elephant Encounter - an incredible opportunity to unobtrusively observe some of the biggest personalities in Africa.

An open-design thatch Boma gives guests an uninterrupted view of the beautiful Masuwe River, and against this breath-taking back drop, guests are given an insightful and educational presentation on the Wild Horizons Elephant Sanctuary and Orphange. The sanctuary was founded on the principle of conservation, and one of the most effective ways to evoke a sense of environmental responsibility is to show what stands to be lost.

Guests learn about the elephants as well as their history and how they came to be in the sanctuary’s care as well as the threats facing elephant populations today.

Hello from the rainforest in the rainy season in Victoria Falls! Everything is looking so lush and green.

If you are wondering what the best time of the year to travel to Victoria Falls - whilst it is rewarding to visit at any time, it is most dramatic when the water flow peaks over February to June. It is almost as spectacular over July to September when there is less spray and the views are clearer. You will be warmly welcomed any time of the year!

“The world is indeed full of peril, and in it there are many dark places; but still there is much that is fair, and though in all lands love is now mingled with grief, it grows perhaps the greater.” ~ J.R.R. Tolkien

Meerkats - 5 fabulous facts that will fascinate you!

🙌🏻 They are communal creatures they are incredibly social animals and live in large groups known as ‘mobs’ or ‘clans’.

🙌🏻 They are skilled sentinels - just look at this picture as proof! Meerkats have a remarkable system of sentinel duty. They take turns standing guard on termite mounds or rocks while the others search for food. With their watchful eyes and distinct alarm calls; they keep the rest of the group safe from potential predators.

🙌🏻 They are subterranean superstars. Meerkats are the masters of digging! They spend a great deal of their time underground, creating elaborate burrow systems with multiple entrances and different chambers for various purposes. It’s like having their own meerkat mansion, complete with sleeping quarters, nurseries, and storage rooms.

🙌🏻 they are Scorpion snackers. Meerkats have a taste for scorpions! Despite the scorpion’s venomous sting, meerkats have developed a unique skill. They engage in a daring ‘sting-handling’ behaviour, where they carefully remove the stinger before devouring the crunchy delicacy.
🙌🏻 Cooperative childcare. While the dominant pair handles most of the mating, the entire group pitches in to care for the little ones. From taking turns babysitting, to lactating females helping with feeding, it’s a truly cooperative effort that ensures the survival and happiness of the adorable meerkat pups.

The Makgadikgadi Salt Pans are one of the top locations for seeing meerkats in Africa.

5 reasons why cheetahs are awesome

🙌🏻 they are built for rapid speed - cheetahs can accelerate to 110kmph in 3 seconds - quicker than most sports cars!
🙌🏻 they are not built like other big cats - they can’t roar - they purr like big kitty cats!
🙌🏻 Cheetah’s semi-retractable claws and ridges on their foot pads help with traction, gripping the ground when running. The genus name – Acinonyx – means ‘no-move-claw’ in Greek. Flexible spines allow them to stretch out while running.
🙌🏻 Cheetahs are diurnal hunters and they can spot prey up to 5 km (3 mi) away. They have a wide field of vision, 50% greater than humans, and black “tear stripes” running from the corners of their eyes help to minimise sun glare during hunting
🙌🏻 At the height of an intense chase, a cheetah’s body temperature will rise significantly, up to 40ºC Cheetahs will also take up to 150 breaths per minute during a high-speed chase, nearly triple their normal respiratory rate.

"The trip was absolutely one of the most amazing trips I’ve ever been on. I truly believe if it wasn’t for you, the guides you picked for us and your planning and coordination, it would not have been the same. It was honestly one of the most relaxed vacations I’ve ever been on, so thank you for all your hard work. I honestly cannot think of one thing that I would’ve done different or that could’ve gone in a smoother than it did. I cannot imagine planning a better trip for myself. Hopefully next year, you can help us to have another amazing trip."

- the most wonderful words any travel organizer wants to hear!

This was part of a fabulous thank you letter from recent clients who travelled to Victoria Falls and Cape Town on a fabulous 10 day program.
