Dear Valued Customer

Effective from 1st July 2016, to ensure the safety of ships, cargo and overall safety at sea, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) has adopted amendments to the SOLAS convention which requires all containers gross mass to be verified prior stowage on board the ships.

DP World will provide a weighing system which will be integrated with the terminal operating system and the VGM will be available to the shipping line and shipper on Dubai Trade Portal.

SOLAS requires the shipper to provide VGM in a “shipping document”, either as part of the shipping instruction or in a separate communication, before vessel loading. Weight declared on VGM will be final and supersede weight provided at the time of booking note and Export Documentation etc.

DPW is the competent authorities for weighment of stuffed containers at the time of receiving at port facilities. Port authorities will charge AED 65per container as per DPW tariff to be paid at the time of generating Export token directly to port authorities.

These charges will be billed to the respective Exporters via our usual channel.

"Isra Wal Mi'raj Public Holiday"

All Shipping Lines, Agents and Port Users

On the occasion of "Isra Wal Mi'raj" DP World, UAE Region Administrative Offices will be closed on Sunday, 25th May 2014. Regular working hours will resume from Monday, 26th May 2014.

The terminal operations will continue as normal. During the holiday period, all charges will be raised according to the public holiday rates listed in the Port Tariff.

"UAE Declares Holiday For Private and Public Sectors On May 25"

The UAE has declared a holiday for both public and private sector workers on May 25 to mark Isra Wal Miraj, state news agency WAM reported.

Work will resume for both the private and public sectors on May 26, officials said.

The holiday for the public sector and federal agencies was declared on Tuesday evening through a circular issued by Humaid Al Qatami, Minister of Education and chairman of the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources.

He added that the Isra Wal Miraj public holiday has been moved from Monday, May 26 to Sunday, May 25.

Qattami explained that, as per the federal law, public holidays in the UAE could be moved to the beginning or end of the week if they fall between two working days.

A circular issued by the UAE's Labour Minister, Saqr Ghobash, confirmed that May 25 will be an official paid holiday for all private sector employees.

Isra Wal Miraj marks the spiritual night journey undertaken by Prophet Muhammad from Mecca to Jerusalem, after which he was taken to heaven.

The event is observed on the 27th day of the month of Rajab, the seventh month in the Islamic calendar.
