Paiwastoon was founded as an Afghan-international social enterprise in 2006 with one mission: to make information and communication technologies (ICT) work for Afghanistan. We specialize in software and mobile app development, off-grid communication solutions, and ICT research. Over the past six years, we have designed, developed, tested and deployed technology that meet local needs and is sustain

able by Afghans. To promote sustainable ICT, we utilize Free and Open Source Software (FOSS) whenever possible and design durable, ultra-low maintenance systems. While we actively work to build local technical capacity and improve the overall climate for ICT adoption in Afghanistan, we also strive to ensure that any piece of technology we deploy in the field — whether it’s a laptop, a bandwidth management server, a mobile phone pre-loaded with educational software, or a large solar array — can be maintained by local users with little or no technical expertise. The Paiwastoon team is composed of experienced aid workers, IT professionals, researchers, and software developers. Our clients include Afghan businesses and civil society organizations, international NGOs, embassies, government ministries, and international organizations.
