Historical Sites in Antigua that can be viewed without leaving the vessel include:

SHIRLEY HEIGHTS
With the rise of Napoleon France and increasing military tensions in Europe, British economic interests in the Caribbean were under threat of invasion.

In the 1790's a campaign was begun to strengthen the fortifications of Antigua. In light of the fact that the Naval Dockyard at English Harbour was of strategic importance to British interests, gun platforms and barracks with support facilities were constructed on the surrounding hills to house and support a large military force that could be quickly deployed in the region.

These fortifications and barracks were manned primarily by numerous British Regiments, but due to the high mortality rate among the white British troops, African (black) soldiers from the West India Regiments were station here at various times. All of the construction and support work at this large site was conducted by enslaved Africans.

The result of this cultural melting pot, is a rich archaeological assemblage with many avenues for theoretical and field research. Current research activities include, mapping the cemeteries and burial sites scattered across the hillsides, excavations at the artillary officers quarters, the barracks and canteen, and mapping all previously unrecorded structures.

Great Bird Island
This is a 20 acre island which is sort of resembles the letter "J". Its shape provides two cove areas which are sheltered and fantastic for snorkeling. The shallow reefs in the area are close to shore from both the North and South beaches. The island is privately owned but does not have a human population. It is home to a number of endangered creatures including the rare Ameiva Griswoldi lizard, Red-billed Tropicbird and the harmless Antiguan Racer snake. Some of the colourful coral heads in the area measure an impressive 3 to 4 feet in diameter. Great Bird island is protected as a part of the North Sound National Park. This area is a great opportunity for the novice and experienced alike and the perfect choice to introduce young ones to the amazing world underwater. You can point out all the colourful fishes that dart about the reefs going about their everyday lives.

Ffryes Beach is in many ways the traditional, sun soaked and dreamy beach of your imagination. Given the extraordinary natural reef close to Ffryes Beach, there are excellent opportunities for snorkeling. A few minutes drive away from the Curtain Bluff Resort

Ffryes Beach is usually very quiet, which makes it an ideal place to relax and to sunbathe. This is partly due to the fact that as you approach along the main road nothing is seen of the actual beach. There’s a dusty track that leads to it, and if you’re not aware of what to look for you can easily miss it. The track goes uphill approximately 15km from St. Johns, past the ruins of an old sugar mill. At the crest of the hill you’re given your first view of the unspoiled sands, as the track continues down to it. Parking on the dunes is prohibited, and visitors are reminded that is an area protected by law. Ffryes Beach also features a beach bar known as Dennis Cocktail Bar & Restaurant . The main hillside restaurant allows guests to absorb the mesmerising sea and hill views. Feast on great Caribbean food with locally grown vegetables and provisions picked fresh from Dennis' garden farm.

This is a must see!!!!! Devils Bridge,Antigua - Geological, Devil's Bridge is a natural arch carved by the sea from soft and hard limestone ledges of the Antigua formation, a geological division of the flat north-eastern part of Antigua. A bridge was created when a soft part of the limestone eroded away by action of Atlantic breakers over countless centuries.
This place has seen mass su***de in colonial days by slaves, therefore it is said by the locals that the devil must lurk at this place. Would you visit this site on your next trip with Life's a Picnic'.

Long Bay
This bay is located on the far eastern part of the island. The reefs here are farther out than others that have been highlighted above. The reefs fall away to deep ocean so this is where you will spot more of the larger marine life. Barracuda, stingray and eagle rays are quite the possibility here. Spotted file fish, grouper, blue tangs are some of the other marine life that you are almost sure to see.
These are just a few of the locations in this wonderful tropical locale with many more for you to both discover and explore. With air temperatures in the mid seventies in the winter months and rising to the mid eighties in the summer you can vacation here any time of the year. Just a few minutes walk from the Grand Pineapple Antigua Resort and The Verandah Resort and Spa.
