The waterfall of Jermuk Armenia falls from 70 meters height. Indeed, this is a unique miracle of Armenian highlands. It is named “Mermaid’s hair”, due to its special resemblance to female hair, flowing freely right into the Arpa river gorge!
The waterfall also has its own legend. The legend says once upon a time there was a very beautiful princess and many princes wanted to marry her. But she was in love with the son of a shepherd, and they had to meet secretly.
The princess threw a rope into the mentioned gorge so that her beloved one could climb up to her. Soon, the king learned about it and cursed his daughter. He said that if they ever meet again, princess would turn into a mermaid and stay in the water forever!
As expected, young lovers couldn’t go long without each other. The princess didn’t have a rope at hand, instead she threw her pretty long hair into the gorge, and suddenly the curse came true. Her hair turned into the presently famous waterfall, that’s why it is called “Mermaid’s hair
