Let’s celebrate carnival as in the old days in Buenos Aires: having a carnival tango dance!

In a few days it's carnival in Argentina, so what better way to celebrate than by having a virtual online celebration dedicated to carnival and tango!

Tango dance teacher and Brotango founder Flavia and sustainable travel expert and Ammanik founder Rosario are hosting a free virtual journey through Buenos Aires in the old days when tango & carnival were the perfect pairing for the feast!

Join us live from our home in Buenos Aires and let us bring tango, the porteño carnival and good vibes from our city to yours, wherever that may be in the world!

You’ll get a crash course in how porteños celebrated this feast through time, and of course, how tango became the soundtrack of the carnival dance.

[ENG bellow 👇] La vida siempre nos da un nuevo amanecer, un nuevo comienzo.⁣

Este amanecer en particular es de nuestro último viaje a El Chaltén, en marzo 2020, después de dos días de lluvia sin ver el sol. El día anterior habíamos intentado llegar a la base del Fitz Roy, Laguna de los Tres, pero por la lluvia no pudimos. También habíamos planeado hacer, un día antes, el trekking al Glaciar Cagliero. Pero el mal tiempo tampoco nos dejó tener esa experiencia. ⁣
⁣
En fin, en la vida como en los viajes hay situaciones que hacen que uno tenga que adaptarse, cambiar de planes y empezar de nuevo. ⁣
⁣
Como decimos en Argentina: "Siempre que llovió, paró". ⁣
⁣

Life always gives us a new dawn, a new beginning.⁣

This particular sunrise is from our last trip to El Chaltén, in March 2020, after two days of rain without seeing the sun. The day before, we had tried to reach Fitz Roy base, Laguna de los Tres, but due to the rain we couldn't. We had also planned to do the trekking to the Cagliero Glacier the day before, but the bad weather didn't let us to have that experience either.⁣
⁣
In short, in life as in travel there are situations that make one have to adapt, change plans and start over.⁣
⁣
As we say in Argentina: "After it rained, it stopped."⁣
⁣

This time of year is spectacular to walk and get lost in Buenos Aires. One thing you can do during your walking tour around the city, is visit the Cabildo.

On September 25, 2002, a juvenile Southern Right Whale was entangled with the chains of a catamaran from a tourist sightings company in Puerto Pirámides.

Fortunately, after the hard work of the entire community, this whale regained its freedom safe and sound.

For this reason, for the past sixteen years, every September 25 in Agrentina, we take this date to reflect on our relationship with the environment and the Southern Right Whale.

Southern Right Whale was one of the species most affected by commercial hunting. Its name comes from whale hunters who considered this species the right whale to kill for being so tame.

It is estimated that the world population of Southern Right Whales prior to commercial exploitation was between 55,000 and 70,000 individuals.

Despite being protected since 1935, the population is still small. At present there are between 12 thousand and 15 thousand individuals in the Southern Hemisphere. The population is recovering, with a growth of between 5% and 6% per year.

However, their future is not assured, as many threats (besides hunting) affect whales in all oceans.

The negative impact on the environment of the coastal urbanizations; the increase of kelp gull population and their harassment to whales; the transit of vessels; the entanglements with fishing nets and the modification of marine ecosystems, keep the Southern Right Whale in a situation of disturbing weakness.
