Green Building Solutions (GBS) Summer University 2022 will take place from July 16 to August 07 in Vienna ! The GBS is a 3-week academic training that specializes on first-hand ecological knowledge and engineering expertise. Lectures, workshops and excursions deal with the ecological, economic, technical and social aspects of green building and construction. Participants deepen their knowledge in

passive house planning, sustainable urban development, new energy technologies, innovative architecture and ecological design together with local experts. A group design project aims to incorporate the gained knowledge. The GBS aims at international students and professionals in the field of architecture, building design, urban planning, engineering sciences, construction, property development, facility and energy management as well as all related topics dealing with the built environment. We also invite people with study backgrounds such as resource planning, ecology, landscape planning to apply. Students with respective backgrounds can apply for a scholarship. We are proud about our first participant from Oman - Abdullah bin Ahmed Beit Othman – who joined the GBS 2024 thanks to the agreed collaboration with a quite new partner, the Dhofar University’s College of Engineering !

Yesterday was an inspiring day with interesting discussions and inputs!
First, we attended “Einfach Bauen – Perspectives on Low-Tech Architecture” by the Club of Vienna, where we heard fascinating talks on how low-tech architecture can shape a more livable future. 🏛️💡
Then, we joined the thought-provoking panel discussion by on “Climate Action as an Economic Driver?” featuring a powerful opening by and a presentation of a study by the Wegener Center for Climate and Global Change. 🌱🌍

Did you know…

…that the GBS was already implemented over 13 years ago? Our summer university program took place for the first time in 2011. Since then, it has been a growing success and now counts over 550 alumni!

From 14 July to 02 August 2025, GBS will be back for the 15th time. Make sure to save yourself a spot! - Applications will open in January!

Yesterday we joined the GBB Award - Green & Blue Building conference at Palais Pallavicini.

It was very interesting to hear about applied approaches to , and in & by decision-makers in the Austrian real estate industry! Also it was great to meet up with longstanding partners, former colleagues and sponsors of the OeAD student housing summer programs such as Austrian Institute of Technology and !

Collect lighthouses for every passive house you come across while biking in Austria. This year's ranking is coming to an end real soon. Until September 30th you can still collect lighthouses and save yourself a prize!

This years GBS participants were also taking part in the passathon and spent a wonderful day exploring vienna on bike with a guided tour through some Best-Practice passive houses in Vienna.

It is unbelievable, how fast time goes by, during the time the students are with us in summer.☀️

60 students from 28 nations such as France, Canada, Serbia, Italy, China, Mongolia, India, Sweden, Ireland and many more have started into the second week of !

Last week was so inspiring.🤩

We are grateful for every single expert and lecturer who contributed, thank you for your dedication to the students and your amazing presentations.

We have gained insights into development and technologies by Laszlo Lepp () as well as Günter and Markus Lang (.at). With Günter and Markus we also did the amazing bike tour to Seestadt Aspern where we collected over 30 energy efficient lighthouse projects via the app.

We learned about , in a lecture held by and about in a lecture by Yvonne Franz ().

and Peter Holzer talked about , about and talked about indoor & outdoor comfort.

We would also like to thank Harald Schwarzschachner from our long-standing supporter and Anna Aichinger, working at for their lectures on .

Yesterday we started with the topic of and did a deep dive into and . Afterwards we visited Kauergasse 2 in the 15th district, a renovation project centered around greywater reusage.
