Charlie and I strongly feel that voting YES to the Voice is the first step in creating a unified future for Australia. Division is not the product of this referendum. It is endemic and has existed for far too long.
If you are uncertain about how to vote we ask you to please think further and to listen.
We live here in Alice Springs/ Mparntwe, we hear loud and clear that Jacinta Price does not represent the Aboriginal people of this country.
Do not be fooled by her!
We ask you to please think again and vote YES for unity and racial equality.

Taking the opportunity to do some advocacy for the Voice to Parliament via our local Advocate Art Award here in Mparntwe, Alice Springs. Prizes went to other worthy work but I feel pleased to have found my own voice through the medium of wax Batik using rust and tannin as the dye.
YES for the Voice

Last weekend at Birthday Waterhole, a favourite place deep in the ranges. An algae bloom on the edge of the waterhole. Identified by an algae specialist as Botryococcus, from a sample we bought home. It was such a vivid orange it looked ‘unatural’ in the landscape, like something a careless camper might have released. Is good to know we can love it! Unlike all the toilet paper scattered around and ugly stone fire rings people leave behind. Out here you don’t need a ring of stones, (do you ever?) you just dig a shallow hole for your fire and then fill it in when you leave so all the ash and charcoal doesn’t blow around, turning the pristine sand grey and dirty. Leave only footprints or in the case for this remote location, tyre tracks….. unfortunately.

Sleeping in a swag is the most inspiring thing. To lay down on the earth at the end of the day and surrender to the night, wake to see the stars, is profoundly transformative. Our recent trip to the edge of the Simpson Desert with two creative friends from Sweden gave us all this and more.

Artists at work near @ Ross River Resort at the amazing rock wall known as the sphinx. I wish I knew it’s Arrernte name? Late afternoon light is always spellbinding. On our most recent Creative Camp we were blessed with a huge stormy sky behind the rock formation.

Larapinta Creative Camps would like to congratulate Anna Dakin on being awarded the NT’s Top Tour Guide for 2022. Anna worked with us for 2 seasons when she was fresh from the UK. She was the Assistant on our supported camps for artists in remote Central Australia. Charlie with a PhD in Biology taught her much about the plants, animals and ecology I taught her how to cater for the needs of creative folk in the wild. Everyone loved Anna’s friendly, generous manner and her passion for Central Australia, including us! She has had many more great work experiences and walked kilometres on the Larapinta Trail since those early days with us.
Well done Anna!

I rarely post photos of myself but here I am, Deb Clarke, owner/operator of Larapinta Creative Camps. I ran my first Camp 20 years ago. On our most recent Camp based at Ross River Resort we had on board some very accomplished artists. As they did not require my mentoring I had the chance to do some work myself. So here I am, comfortable in a beautiful little overhang in N’darla Gorge, like a rock wallaby. I wished my efforts to express this beautiful feeling of being part of the place worked better, but it’s the activity, the making, that is the magic of being in a place more than the end result.
