I had the pleasure of attending my first Red Thunder Tactical Formation Clinic at Watts Bridge Memorial Airfield from 13 - 19 May and I took “Rosie”, my Yak 52. There were 21 aircraft there during the week, and pilots with varying levels of experience. The event is organised and managed by two former RAAF fighter pilots, the idea being to train pilots with varying levels of experience in the skills of close formation, tactical formation, and eventually basic fighter and air combat manoeuvres. Not only was it my first command time in the AW139, but it was a solo ferry flight from Archerfield to the Sunshine Coast. Such a nice aircraft to fly, looking forward to plenty more hours in the seat of these babies 😁

It was bound to happen sooner or later, but sooner than I expected. 🤪 Due to a late cancellation by my scheduled sim partner due to sickness, I got the opportunity to fly a session with my nephew Brody, and it was quite a thrill. Departed Tamworth, engine out drills straight away, over to Gunnedah for an instrument approach, then back to Tamworth with an engine fire drill, RNP LNAV/VNAV approach and and ILS for a quick 2.0 hrs. Brody is filling in again tomorrow for my annual Instrument Proficiency Check, thanks Brody, I’m looking forward to it more now than I should be 😁

Flew Rosie from Bundy to Boonah this morning for her annual maintenance checkout. Thanks to the team at Ultimate Aero and Nigel Arnot for taking good care of her. Back to Bundy on Sunday 21st Jan and should be good to go for Adventure Flight fun and games 😎😁
