Looking forward to the show tonight. I think it’s their 20th year of renovating houses. And they picked Phillip Island this year!!

Down on Phillip Island for this long King’s Birthday weekend. Popped over to The Block ‘24 construction site. Bit hard to see. But this is what I got. I think they’re almost finished.

Something quite strange has happened this January. I have no bookings after the 7th Jan.
Are people staying home this year? The whole month of Jan is usually booked!

The first whales to visit Phillip Island for the season were spotted last week!

When visiting Phillip Island during the winter months, June to September, you are very likely to spot a whale from shore!

🐳Humpback Whales are the most common ones sighted, they will usually be on the move, in small groups of 2 or more, a few hundred metres to a few kilometers off shore. Look for their blows, long pectoral fins making a splash, or a tail fluke as they dive under.

🐳Southern Right Whales are bigger, slower and usually closer to shore, just behind the wave break off Cape Woolamai or in the bays around Pyramid Rock for example. Southern Rights can look just like logs, note their black back, paddle like fins and big tail fluke.

🐳Orca or Killer Whales (they are in fact the largest of the dolphin family!) are more elusive, hunting in small pods of up to around 10. You probably won’t see the larger baleen whales if you spot Orca Whales, they hunt them! Look for their black dorsal fins, and black, grey and white colouring.
