Well everyone, it's been a while since we posted (sorry for falling off the social media wagon for a while! Its been a busy busy time). We have finally left Tasmania after spending one year almost to the day, in this wonderful state. 😭😢  We originally thought we'd stay for 3 months in Tasmnaia, but we underestimated the amount there was to see and do there. We were very sad to leave after making some amazing friends and seeing some of the most beautiful parts of this pristine place, but we were excited to see more new sites that we hadn't visited before.

We are now travelling around Victoria. Here, is our final picture of our last glimpses of Tasmania as we left on a stunning day from Devonport. After our smooth sailing on the Spirit of Tasmnaia, we disembarked and drove straight to the Yarra Valley and stayed at the Big 4 Yarra Valley, located in stunning town of Healesville. What a gorgeous spot. Surrounded by wineries and places to walk through gorgeous rainforest, we happily stayed here for 1 week. As you can see, our little man enjoyed the local birds which came to visit each day in the caravan park.

Beautiful Stanley..North West Tassie!

As we start to wind up our 12 month tour of Tassie we spent a wonderful week exploring the magical town of Stanley in Tasmania’s north west. Stanley is famous for “The Nut” which is actually an extinct volcano that now forms the iconic headland.

The town is very historic and has some great options for accommodation. You have either the RV stop near the golf club or the caravan park closer to the town centre. Both are great options.

Seven Mile Beach - The one that's in North West Tasmania!

We have been waiting to get on to a sandy beach and go for a beach run. Located between Smithton & Stanley on the north west coast is a place called Seven Mile Beach which is easily accessible for most vehicles. (Just be mindful there is another Seven Mile beach located down near Hobart if you google it.)

We had this place to ourselves and while the weather was not the best it is always great to hit the beach in the truck.

The Tarkine...North West Tasmania!!

While in North West Tasmania we ventured out and completed the Tarkine tourist drive. Fair to say this drive is a mix of a range of different sites and scenery. There is a lot of regrowth forest coupled with some cracking sites mixed in between. Our highlight was the rugged west coast coastline.

From the famous "Edge of the World" on Tassie’s west coast through to the Trowutta Arch on the way back into Smithton. We personally covered the drive in one day but there were a few of the key sites that were closed on the day. If you have the time its worth a look and you could spend a few days.

Relax at Blackberry Inn…North West Tassie!

As part of our recent adventure into north west Tassie we stopped for a week at the little town of Forest. This town has the most amazing low cost camp spot called Blackberry Inn. The location provides easy access to the major townships of Stanley and Smithton. We used this location as a base to explore the region and we totally enjoyed our time here.

For just $50 you get this beautiful quiet location for a full week. There is a brand new camp kitchen, public toilets and a drinking water point available for all campers. The community tennis court is also available for use and there is also a basketball ring for the big kids. Finally for the little ones in your tribe there is a great little playground for the kids. We can recommend the local store located next door as they have good value burgers and other options. We always like to support the local business owners so drop in and grab some supplies or a bite to eat.

Dip Falls then relax at Blue Hills Honey

If you want an easy day out up in north west Tassie. Treat yourself to a visit out to Dip Falls. These falls have an amazing tessellated rock formation which is really unique. There is a bottom viewing deck which is down a fairly hefty staircase but I promise you...its worth it.

Then head back up the top and take in the falls from the opposite side for a completely different aspect.

Once you have finished at the falls if you make your way back towards Mawbanna (10-15 mins)and make sure you stop at Blue Hills Honey . A brilliant place to stop for big kids and little kids alike. Some amazing blends of honey and terrific team across the whole business.

Our little man loved the bee hive themed playground so we thought why not grab some lunch and sit outside while the little guy had a play.

Smithton Tasmania…Gateway to the Tarkine!

We recently spent some time in Smithton Tasmania as part of our exploration of Tassie’s North West. We used the Tall Timbers RV free camp as a base for a few days while we explored the area. You can stay in this amazing little RV spot for a maximum of 72 hours. Water & dump points are available in the nearby town but the team at Tall Timbers have delivered with this amazing little spot.

Nestled in amongst the creek that flows through the property is a great place to spend a few days. Ducks on the property for the kids and plenty of room for everyone. Bottle'O is also available on site to make things easier for the big kids

Use this spot as a base and explore the Tarkine drive through the remote north west.

Weekend at Burnie...

Well team we found this incredible little free camp located only 5 mins from the centre of town in Burnie, Tasmania.

Located on Tasmania's north coast this is a great little place to stop for a few hours or a few days.

Camping at Cooee Point Reserve is a great option. You do need to obtain a permit from the local council but this is only to register your stay. This can be done online so no messing around. Camping is absolutely free.

Terrific spot for up to 48 hours.

Waratah Falls… Cascades in the middle of town!!

As part of our recent stay in Waratah we took some time out to visit the towns iconic Waratah Falls. The falls are located right in the centre of town and can be enjoyed by either hiking to the bottom of the falls along an easy short trail or taking in the view from the pub on the top ridge. Lets face it both are good options.

These falls feed from the stream flowing through town and then cascade over just off the side of the roadside. I would love to come and see these after it has snowed in winter time.

Leven Canyon…Stunning, Wild & Easy to Access!!

Leven Canyon is an absolute must in Tasmania people. A stunning landscape from the 2 lookouts as you look down into the wild river end of the mighty Leven.

We did the circuit track that takes approx. 45-60 mins and is about 1.2Klms for the loop. The only catch is the 600+ stairs between the 2 lookouts. So it becomes personal choice… If you are ok with going up stairs then go clockwise but if you prefer to descend down the stairs then opt for the anticlockwise route.

The canyon has been formed from the Leven River cutting through the steep forested country and carving out this wild piece of landscape.

There are two lookouts to enjoy, Cruickshanks and Edge. Both can be accessed on the 1.2km circuit track. Each lookout allows you to enjoy spectacular and expansive views. Between the lookouts is the stairs which are steep in sections. However you can avoid the stairs if you return via the same track.

Lake Mackintosh…Is this really Tassie!!

Lake Mackintosh is five kilometres from Tullah in Tasmania's west coast region. The lake delivers unreal views and you could be forgiven for thinking you were in Canada or another Alpine region. The lake is surrounded by myrtle, sassafras and eucalypt forests along with native ferns growing almost to the lake's edge.

This spot is accessible by taking the track that viers left near the first boat ramp located at the main campground area near the road. However there are a number of top spot you can find along the lake. The main campground area is very large and flat if you are happy to setup here. However if you are willing to explore a little more you will find places like this.

This is a Hydro lake so it is stocked with brown and rainbow trout and a great place to go fishing with several boat ramps available on the lake.

- Camping is FREE
- BYO Water and be self contained
- Generators Allowed but be considerate of fellow campers.
- Take your rubbish with you
- No fires allowed at time of our visit.

As we travel with our little boy Ethan around Australia. From time to time we like to stop for a week or two and let Ethan attend day care or “school” as he calls it.

For the past 2 weeks Ethan has been attending Giggles early learning centre in the town of Smithton in northern Tassie. We can only say the team have been amazing and Ethan has enjoyed his time here immensely.

He has a some very fond memories from using wood tools to build a plane through to using the fertiliser machine to help the plants. If you are travelling and need a good place for your little one please consider Giggles at Smithton in Tassie.

We have been able to accomodate Master four into our service as his family finish their travel around Tasmania. The family value the opportunity to enable their son to have social interaction with other children.

Master four has responded with enthusiasm to our curriculum. He was invested in the task of fertiliser spreading and the Early childhood teacher engaged a group of children to create a sachet of fertiliser for Master four to take with him on his travels. The children drew interpretations of plant growth inside the card that was attached to the sachet.

We are thankful to have met the family and wish them well as they continue their travels. Yolo Touring

King Solomons Cave…A Sparkly Wonderland

King Solomons Cave is a smaller cave located in Mole Creek Karst National Park just near Liena, 25 km west of the Mole Creek township.

Upon entering the cave you can see why the cave has its name. The roof of the cave sparkles under the light as it reflects on the calcite crystals, making it sparkle like the fabled treasures of King Solomon’s mines.

If you have the time it is possible to visit these caves on the same day as you visit the other Mole Creek caves. As this cave is a little further out you just need to allow yourself enough time to drive to the location of this cave from the rangers station. Allow about 25 min drive plus a 10 min walk to get to the cave entrance.

Masks are still required in this cave as well so please follow the rangers and cave guides requests.

Marakoopa Cave & Fern Glade Walk... Unreal!!

We decided to visit the Mole Creek Caves which are part of the Mole Creek Karst National Park. This is a very unique park in Tasmania. “Karst” is a type of landscape where the dissolving of the bedrock has created sinkholes, sinking streams, caves and springs. The caves maintain a constant temperature of 9 degrees so you can visit all year round. However bring a warm coat and wear some good comfy shoes as the paths are often wet.

Our tour took in the underground rivers, glow-worms caves and what is also known as the Great Cathedral. Once inside the caves you are treated to an absolutely amazing experience. The Glow worms are some of the best we have seen. The cave system has plenty of room and the guides are just amazing.

"YES" you have to mask up currently due to confined space within the cave. So be prepared and please do what the guides request.

We also recommend arriving a little earlier than your tour start time and take the Fern Glade walk that leaves from the ranger station and takes you along the creek to where the cave tour starts. Firstly this is one of Tassie’s 60 great walks. However you will also be hard pressed to see such greenery like this anywhere else. Give yourself 15-20 mins each way before and after the cave tour. ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣

Montezuma Falls...Wow on Video!

This amazing 11.5Klm return rainforest walk follows the path of an old tramway through this thick west coast forest to one of the highest falls in Tasmania. The track takes you right to the base of the 104m high falls, and to a suspension bridge that offers great views back to the falls.

The track itself is fairly flat the whole way to the falls. So all ages and fitness levels can do this one with a little time on your side. So worth it as it's a magical place. ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣

Montezuma Falls...Wow Wow Wow!

Well we finally got here…. This amazing 11.5Klm return rainforest walk follows the path of an old tramway through this thick west coast forest to one of the highest falls in Tasmania. The track takes you right to the base of the 104m high falls, and to a suspension bridge that offers great views back to the falls.

Nearing arrival at the falls is the suspension bridge which takes you over the river and into the extended track area. We all took the walk across the suspension bridge where little Ethan, Daddy & Mummy were all a bit scared at times. We recommend 1 person at a time on the bridge.

However once you make your way back over to the waterfall side you can stand right at the base of the falls and they are just amazing. Another one of those great places to just stop and spend some time. We had lunch and a cup of tea while we hung out at the base and took some photos before making our way back to the car where Michael had to step over a tiger snake on the path just as we neared the carpark…Yikes . ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣

Rosebery Tasmania... Low Cost Camp!!

Please note: Town name is spelt Rosebery and not Rosebury as per the video title. Our mistake!!

Located in Tasmania’s Central West region is the little town of Rosebery. A brilliant option for stopping in Rosebery is the low cost camp located at the local Community Golf Club. At just $10 per night per vehicle this is an excellent location to base yourself to access Montezuma Falls which is approx. 8Klm from this spot.

To camp here you need to be fully self contained. Collect all your grey water and take all your rubbish with you. There is a designated dump point within the town for disposal of black/grey water. Best place to leave rubbish is at the bins located in the park near kids playground on the Main Street. There is also access to a water tap in this park as well.

We recommend using this as a base to access Montezuma’s Water Fall just up the road. This waterfall is an absolute must see.

Rosebery is an excellent base location to explore the surrounding area.

At the back of the Golf Club is a self registration area where your record your vehicle details and deposit your camping fees. (Cash Only).

Prices as at the 5/4/2022 as follows:

Self Contained: $10/night

Waratah Tasmania Low Cost Camp!!

Located on Tasmania’s North West Coast is the picturesque town of Waratah. This little town is 100% RV friendly and boasts one of the best low cost camps around. Catering for those needing full power and water hookup and for everyone else who is fully self contained. Camp sites are on a first come first served basis so its best to get here around lunch time for a good spot.

The town has a Black water/Grey water dump point approx. 500M from the park as well.

Once you are settled in and all setup you can walk over the road and down the trail to see Waratah Falls right in the middle of town, visit the Waratah historical museum or just take a stroll around the beautiful gardens around the lake the feeds the local water fall.

Waratah is an excellent base location to explore the north west and down to Cradle Mountain.

Liffey Falls…Total Bliss!!

Located South West of Launceston is Tasmania’s Liffey Falls. These beautiful, tiered waterfalls are nestled in deep, mossy forest beneath Tasmania’s spectacular Great Western Tiers. We took a short drive from our camp to complete the 2 Klm track. Upon arrival all seemed to be in order. As we set off Ethan noted that he did not have his jumper with him and we quickly realised that we did not bring it with us ( We know parents of the year!!). Not to worry he quickly stole dads jumper and away we went.

First stop the upper section of the falls where we started to take some photos when unfortunately Ethan then slipped on one of the wet areas and fell straight into a puddle. After some debate on what was the best thing to do Ethan decided he just wanted to keep going with his wet pants and single wet shoe as he wanted to see the water fall.

Arriving at the bottom section of the falls you look up to see the most stunning and blissful surroundings. The tiered section of the waterfalls are beautiful as the water cascades down. We spent quite a bit of time at the falls just relaxing. As we started to head back up hill Ethan jumped into the backpack and said giddy up dad lets go back to the car park.

Arriving back at the carpark we broke out the thermos for a cup of tea and a Vegemite sandwich. How good does a Vegemite sandwich taste when you have just done a big walk….AMAZING!! ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣

Chudleigh…Flying with Daisies!!

This week we stopped for a few nights in the small township of Chudleigh Tasmania which is south west of Launceston. The Showgrounds in the Main Street of the town is a great low cost camp and was also super quiet and ideally placed for exploring the surrounding area.

At just $5/night its was a very cost effective for our family. You pay your fees at the general store which is just next door to the Showgrounds and here you will meet some of the friendliest people in Tasmania.

The oval next door was completely covered in bright yellow daises when we were there making for a fantastic and scenic backdrop for our 2 night stay. ⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣

Laughs at Longford…

On our way up north through Tasmania we decided to drop in for a few nights at the Longford caravan park. Safe to say our stop was absolutely fabulous.

We were fortunate enough to grab a riverside site and the grounds and the vista were just fantastic.

We were still camping with our friends the where we all enjoyed some great laughs around the camp fire.

The night sky was beautiful starting with gorgeous sunset and then the night sky was so clear as we watched the night sky from around our fire.

This park has recently undergone some major upgrades and the whole park is looking nice.

Hanging out with The Feel Goods...

After leaving Coles Bay on Tasmania's epic east coast we headed inland through the midlands to catch up with our friends .

It was so nice to catch up with this fun loving family. We actually met in December 2020 on the Gold Coast.

As a random act of life we met these guys and then recently they drove into the Coles Bay Caravan park when we were there. We decided to catch up again when we were finished our work stint.

We did a low cost camp at Oatlands which was an absolute cracker of a spot. The entire town has been maintained to keep its historic look and feel. The playground next to the camping area is just amazing and was a draw card in its own right for the little guys.

What an amazing couple of days we have had and our little boys played so much over this time.
