Did you know that at Dido's Place, we are committed to sustainability and actively implementing various initiatives to minimize our environmental impact? Our efforts include harnessing solar energy, collecting rainwater, worm farming, using sustainable products and supporting local businesses and artists.

One of our latest initiatives is providing Boomerang bags as shopping bags for our Guests. These eco-friendly bags are designed to reduce plastic waste and were sourced from the Hawkesbury Remakery, a local not-for-profit makerspace dedicated to arts and crafts. The Remakery also focuses on sustainability by promoting recycling, reusing, and repairing, making it a fantastic resource for our community. We're honoured to announce that our fundraising initiatives at Dido's Place will now extend to support the hope4ufoundation. Previously, we raised thousands of dollars for Hawkesbury's Helping Hands, who are an equally incredible charity, supporting the homeless through events like the City2Surf and our return and earn initiative at Dido's Place. Now, it's time to share the love across the Hawkesbury and we're extending our support to the Hope4U Foundation.

The Hope4U Foundation provide crucial mental health support, educational programs, and vital intervention services. From supporting victims of domestic violence to preventing su***de, their impact is profound and we're very excited to be offering our support.

Unfortunately due to injury, I am unable to run the City2Surf this year, however Dido's Place would like to kick start our fundraising efforts by donating $500 to our new charity. Guests can also get involved during their stay by donating their used cans and bottles towards the cause.

We've been busy in our fully equipped kitchen at Dido's Place these School Holidays. This week, we ventured out into the veggie patch and collected some herbs and veggies to create Focaccia Bread Art. Not only was it incredible to look at, but it was absolutely delicious!

There is nothing better than getting the kids out into the garden and teaching them all about the different herbs and vegetables we grow at Dido' Place. Then it's time to get creative in the kitchen, making and decorating focaccia bread.

We have a beautiful new addition, a stunning piece of local art by talented Hawkesbury artist, Cass Walsh. The Hawkesbury has long been a muse for artists, including the famous landscapes that inspired Arthur Streeton, Charles Conder and Sydney Long. More recently, the 2024 Archibald prize was won by Kurrajong local, Laura Jones for her portrait of Tim Winton. Art truly has its heart in the Hawkesbury.

Cass Walsh from Scapes of Art Gallery in Windsor, where we first saw and fell in love with this masterpiece, is an Australian mixed-media impressionist landscape artist who is inspired by the art of light and the beauty of the Hawkesbury. Dido's Place is honoured to support local artists like Cass and our combined efforts towards sustainable tourism. We are thrilled to showcase “Day’s End at Hill End” for everyone to enjoy.

The Scapes of Art Gallery is open one weekend per month in Windsor and is highly recommended to all our Guests. We spent a long weekend here and we (4x kids and 4x adults) all had an absolutely amazing time - from fishing/feeding carp in the lake, and roasting marshmallows on the fire, to curling up in the movie room and playing with the endless toys.

Every detail has been thought of, I mean EVERYTHING! Fishing rods for the kids, indoor and outdoor games, the hot tub, the fire, the welcome baskets, the full kitchen (including kids utensils) there’s literally nothing you need to bring.

Come and see what we got up to last weekend at Dido's Place! We started the weekend off with a morning spa before heading off to the Richmond Good Food Market, which operate every Saturday 8am – 1pm. We picked up some fresh produce and browsed through the local handcrafts. Then it was off to the The Royal Richmond Hotel to pick up some of their amazing Old Kent Brown BBQ sauce, a huge hit with our Guests. You'll find your bottle in your welcome basket! Did you know that it is prime apple picking season up in Bilpin? We visited Pine Crest Orchard, Bilpin where the kids had so much fun picking apples and pears straight off the trees. Nearby, we stopped into Bilpin Blossom Farm for fresh figs, which we later wrapped in prosciutto and stuffed with blue cheese! Yum! Back at Dido’s Place, we took advantage of our fully equipped kitchen to cook up a feast with the fresh produce that we had sourced throughout the Hawkesbury that day. The kids made a focaccia using fresh tomatoes and herbs from the garden, while hubby made an incredible pasta dish with pecorino and homemade guanciale and chorizo from our local award winning butchers, Munro’s Quality Meats Wilberforce. They have arrived! Our newest addition to the property are Murray Cod Fingerlings 🐟. After consultation with our Local Council and the Department of Primary Industries Fisheries, we were able to introduce this native species to our dam at Dido's Place . The 100 live fish from Narrabri Fish Farm arrived straight to our door. Fruit and vegetable picking has begun up in Bilpin! To kick start 2024, we headed up to TNT Produce Pick Your Own yesterday and had so much fun picking zucchinis, banana chillies, nectarines, plums, sunflowers and tomatoes. The plums and nectarines were so juicy, crisp and sweet! After all the fun picking, we headed back to Dido's Place to create Gozleme from scratch using our fully equipped kitchen and our freshly picked produce from Bilpin. All aboard the Zig Zag Railway! Looking for a day trip during your stay away with us at Dido's Place , or perhaps you're looking to break the trip up to Clarence from Sydney? The Zig Zag Railway is a must for train enthusiasts of all ages. Take a step back in history and enjoy the beautiful scenery. Train rides currently run every second weekend and tickets do sell out, so book well in advance. There is a kiosk, souvenir store and bathrooms at Clarence Station. Our best tips are to get there early (30 mins ahead), grab a seat on the right hand side of the train as this side had the better valley views and we'd recommend getting tickets to the first ride of the day to avoid Bilpin traffic. Then, on the way back to Dido's Place, why not stop in for lunch at Hillbilly Cider or Bilpin Cider Co ? We had such an incredible time and highly recommend the Zig Zag to all of our Guests. In fact, the Zig Zag is celebrating its 154th birthday this Saturday, 21st October, with taster rides, market stalls, live music and more. Our 9 acres in the Hawkesbury is the epitome of the Australian bush, not far from the city. The setting while manicured, possesses everything you can think of in the Australian bush, from the tall native gumtrees and the fragrance of Photinias, to the occasional kangaroo and the cheerful sound of W***y Wagtails nesting on the grapevine.

This is the perfect setting for a weekend escape with the family, a romantic getaway, for exploring the bush or being adventurous. The Hawkesbury has so much to offer. 4 wheel driving, canoeing, cycling, go-carting, bushwalking, star gazing, rock climbing, bird watching, art galleries, farmer markets, local crafts, water skiing, tubing, boating, horse riding, historic towns and fishing, the list goes on. The area also hosts a number of equestrian competitions, boat races and classic car events throughout the year.

Completed in late 2019, Dido’s Place features 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, study, children’s play room, laundry and theatre room. The house has been furnished with high quality beds, Sheridan towels and 1000 thread cotton sheets for comfort.

Dido’s Place is your home away from home, featuring modern conveniences such as a Nespresso machine for our coffee lovers, Netflix, Nintendo Classic, books and boardgames for a rainy day, a trampoline for the kids, a veggie patch to forage in, a fully stocked toy room for the kids, a Boori Cot for the little one, a telescope for star gazing and an outdoor fire to curl up in front of with a bottle of local wine at the end of the night.
