What a stunning place. Very popular stopover point for Alaskan cruises. We did the hovercraft tour for a close up view of bald eagles. There majestic birds have a wingspan of up to seven feet!

Alaska Rail Road, Denali Star, GoldStar service. This train runs from Anchorage to Fairbanks. I travelled the section from Anchorage to Talkeetna. The scenery is stunning. There are two classes of service. The GoldStar service offers a double decker rail car with seating, a bar and outdoor viewing area upstairs and a dining room downstairs. The fare includes meals, two alcoholic drinks/cocktails and unlimited tea, coffee and soft drinks. Standard class offers a cafe where you can purchase food/drinks and a observation car.

SpringHill Suites, Anchorage, Alaska. Located in Midtown, about 7 km from downtown. Walmart is a 3 minute walk away. There are several restaurants a short walk away. PeopleMover bus stop out the front of the property. Well appointed suites, comfortable beds, microwave and coffee maker in suite. Breakfast included in rates. Extremely friendly and helpful staff.

Mama Shelter Hotel, Hollywood. This hotel will not suit everyone. Great location, one block back from Hollywood Blvd. Very lively rooftop bar which attracts a lot of local clientele. Probably better suited to younger clients who like to feel immersed in the local ambience.
