Hi there, I’m Susie! I am a Master of Information Systems student and over June-July this year I escaped Melbourne winter by spending my break participating in a Short-Term Winter Program at Harvard University in the USA.

My time at Harvard was an incredible mix of academic immersion and classic campus life. Living in one of the Harvard Yard dorms and eating in their dining hall felt like I was living in Hogwarts! I took full advantage of the picturesque setting, from daily strolls through the vibrant Harvard Square on the way to class. I also made some fantastic friends and enjoyed eating together in the dining hall each meal, our after-dinner routine was going on a walk along the serene Charles River with my friends. Another one of my standout memories was exploring the iconic university library and soaking in the rich academic atmosphere.

Applications for Short-Term Summer Programs around the world starting in December are now open!

Hi there, my name is Eddie! During my final year of my Bachelor of Arts, I completed a semester-long exchange at Heidelberg University (Rupert Charles University) in Germany.

During my exchange, I had a rewarding experience immersing myself in German culture. The seven months I spent there were nothing short of life-changing, and I cannot recommend Heidelberg highly enough as the perfect destination for anyone’s exchange.

Throughout the semester, I formed lasting friendships with students from all around the world, enjoyed warm Glühwein (mulled wine) at the renowned German Christmas markets, tried a traditional Bretzel at Oktoberfest in Munich, and spent my mornings cycling through the old town to my German classes which overlooked Heidelberg Castle.

Barry was out and about at our exchange partner the University of Virginia! It’s a beautiful campus that is also a UNESCO world heritage site. The town of Charlottesville is a friendly, fun place nestled in the mountains, within reach of Washington DC, with a really vibrant restaurant and cafe scene.

Have you ever wanted to go spend a semester on a campus that has a beach AND a lagoon? Barry is a fan of the campus and the town.

Hello, my name is Simon Mao and I am a Bachelor of Commerce student who is spending Semester 1 of 2024 as an exchange student at the University of Southern California (USC) - Marshall School of Business!

Study abroad in Los Angeles has been an incredible journey: excitement, curiosity, nervousness, and so much more! In the past four months, I’ve taken every opportunity to explore this vibrant city and the cultures within. From immersing myself in the pure beauty of nature to diving into the vibrant vibe of diverse cultures, LA offers something extraordinary for everyone. Above all, I am most grateful for all the wonderful friends I have made so far who have made my time in LA so special and for all the countless memories this exchange has given me!

Throughout my exchange, I have spent time exploring LA in addition to travelling with my exchange friends to San Diego, Las Vegas, Chicago and Mexico. I have also enjoyed the American sporting culture including NBA, NCAA and partaking in ski trips to Big Bear Lake.

Hello, My name is Chutong (Cindy) Yi and I am a third year student studying a Bachelor of Music. Over the summer I completed a Short-Term Program at Yonsei University in Seoul, Korea!

For several weeks over December and January, I studied both Korean Language and Understanding K-pop Culture at Yonsei University. Although it was a short period, I have gained lots of precious memories and experiences throughout the program.

In Seoul, I ate a lot of food! Mainly, it consisted of kimchi soups with rice and other small dishes. In Korea, I love that all the kimchi and radishes etc are served in buffet form. It comes free with your meal and you can have as much as you like.

I am deeply grateful for the New Colombo Plan Grant, as it helped me cover my tuition fees and my accommodation expenses. This trip has enabled me to improve my understanding of Korean culture and experience living independently in a foreign country.

Hi. I’m Elijah and I was lucky enough to spend the last 6 months studying at the Ludwig Maximilians Universität (LMU) in Munich, Germany.

Not only was my experience on exchange absolutely amazing and personally rewarding, but I could not have picked a better place to do it. Munich was such a pretty city, no matter whether the sun was shining or snow was falling.

The LMU was a very beautiful and historic university that not only gave me the opportunity to take some interesting subjects but also allowed me to make lasting friendships with students from all across the world.

If I had to pick just one favourite thing about exchange in Munich, it would be the proximity of the city to the wonderful nature and small towns of the Bavarian state. To be able to hop on a train with friends and hop off at the foot of a hiking route near the Bavarian alps was just crazy to me and provided a great way to take a break from studying. A close second though would definitely have to be the taste of a good old German beer!

Michael Luckhowec spent last spring semester studying abroad at The University of Melbourne. Here are some of his reflections.
----------------------------------------------
"I studied abroad last semester in Melbourne, Australia, and I can honestly say that it was one of the greatest experiences of my life. Starting from the very first day at my apartment complex, I told myself that I would make some changes and put myself out there more than I do back home. As such, I found myself making friends with almost everyone around me, and within a week I had a solid group of friends that I found myself spending the majority of my time around. So if nothing else, studying abroad has made me more open and willing to approach people. In short, it has made me more confident and self-assured than I was." (1/4)
