After 2.5 years years, Ive finally put some personal cosmetic touches to our clinic.

I wanted it to feel warmer and more and welcoming to my clients. And I hope it helps to further enhance the experience when attending.

My focus has always been on delivering the best service. I now hope the aesthetics match too.

I look forward to seeing you in the clinic soon.

A big thank you to for helping with the fit out.

"When should I book in again?"

It's a common question I get when a finish treating a client.

Unless you have come in with an injury that requires continuous treatment, it's a question that can be hard to answer.

How long is a piece of string?

The truth is, there is no right answer because it's personal to you.

I have clients that require fortnightly treatments, and others that want monthly, 6-weekly etc.

The analogy that I like to use when thinking about this is...

Everyone has a different car. The model, the year, the engine cylinder as well as other things (I'm not very literate when it comes to cars) all affect the performance of the vehicle.

Some cars require a service more frequently than others.

You can drive with no oil, but eventually, it's going to affect the engine.

Not enough air in the tires will eventually affect the rims and the fuel efficiency of the car.

I'm sure there are other examples of this.

To address these things, it's important to book in with your mechanic regularly.

The same applies to you.

You don't need to be broken to book in for a treatment.

It's cheaper to book in for an oil change than it is to get the engine replaced.

At the end of the day, you are worth an infinite amount more than your car.

Start looking after it better.

Food for thought.

I was listening to a podcast earlier this week, (by )

And they used a word that got me thinking on the way that I coach.

EnterTrainment

EnterTrainment is obviously a made-up word, but what does it mean?

Its premise is, your coach focuses more on entertaining you, or themselves...

Rather than creating a systemised program that focuses on your goals.

They chop and change and modify. Prescribing exercises that are Instagram-worthy rather than goal orientated.

I am very fortunate to train a wide variety of clients. I see male and female athletes, as well as your everyday professional and student.

I worked out the other day, I have every decade covered from 20-year-olds all the way through to my oldest at 74 years old.

I program each client's workout exactly the same.

That doesn't mean they are all doing the same program, but the shell of the program itself is no different from my elite athletes, all the way through to James, my 74-year-old client.

I would never chop and change my elite athlete program. They would never adapt. So why would I do that to my gen-pop clients?

Let me know your thoughts, and if you agree or disagree on this.

It has never been enough to rely on the amount you sweat to measure the effectiveness of your workout.

As a trainer, it’s the easiest way to tap into that endorphin rush that comes with it.

This is why so many fitness models rely on their ability to work you to the point of exhaustion.

The reality is, that as a short-term rush, that’s great, but as a long-term solution to your overall health and well-being, it provides little, to no benefit.

10-week challenges. The only people that it benefits are the trainers and their bank accounts. Ask around, how many success stories are there 6-12 months after the fact…

If you have come here looking for a quick fix, you have come to the wrong place. In fact, we can recommend a few places where they “promise” you that.

If you have come looking for a long-term solution to your overall health and well-being, and the ability to move, with your friends, kids or grandkids, this is the place for you.

Our model is a strength-based program that is about moving through full ranges (think deep squats, or getting up and down from the floor), increasing your confidence, lifting heavy, and most importantly understanding how to adapt your training to real-world activities.

If find gyms intimidating, or have suffered an injury that has held you back. Knee pain, back pain ect. Or your simply sick and tired of the same program, just packaged differently, this is the place for you.

We are so confident in our program, we are willing to put a guarantee on it.

Send us a message to find out more.

Gone are the days when simply performing an “observation test” is enough to provide an accurate assessment of your ability to move.

At Trademark Performance, I believe that we should provide more, and YOU should expect more.

That’s why I have invested in a new piece of equipment that costs more than $20,000 + ongoing costs that will allow me to clearly provide you with data for strength, power and muscle imbalance assessments.

No more subjective testing providing vague, inaccurate feedback. Here, I will be able to provide you with baseline numbers, implement a program and quickly track your progress.

You're going to see a lot of this over the next few weeks, fitness studios and personal trainers, coming out and saying let's get fit, let's lose that covid flab.

10-week challenges,

Lose 10kg in time for summer

I'll be honest with you, I hate these programs.

Why? Because these are short term goals.

They don't focus on your long term health and habits.

And statistically, you are more likely to end up putting more weight on than you initially started off with, than keeping any weight off.

I don't want you to starve yourself for 10 weeks, and train yourself into the ground for a short term result.

I want to provide you with a solution that will make you healthier and happier not just for the summer, but for next winter, and next summer and every single one after that.

As an industry, we've just been informed that personal training can resume at parks.

If you are looking for a personal training program that focuses on your health and your goals, this is a perfect time to get off your "working from home chair" and get back into a routine

I'm not going to promise you fake weight loss goals, I'm going to promise you a healthier and happier you.

Because after the year and a half we've had.

You deserve it!

Are you struggling with tight shoulders?

Working from home, and sitting in an uncomfortable position?

Then this stretch is for you...

This stretch focuses on stretching the Subscapularis Muscles that lives on the inside portion of your shoulder blade.

When this muscle gets tight it encourages our shoulders to roll forward, which creates this domino effect of discomfort through your upper back, neck and shoulders.

Using a broomstick, you can create the leverage required to stretch this muscle.

Note that this stretch feels more like a capsule stretch, compared to a muscle stretch.

Hope to see you all back soon,
Tal

Guilty!

Before I get on my research high horse and make recomendations based on a single research paper, I want to caveat this with the fact that I am bad for using my phone while training, especially when I'm on my own. This is post is designed to serve as a reminder to keep focused when training and that there are potential negative side effects of using our phones when training.
-
A recent study by Gantois et al., (2021) looked at the effect of smartphone usage (in particular social media use) and its effect on the participants ability to complete work when lifting.
-
The researches used the half back squat to failure at ~80% of 15RM for 3 sets with 3mins of passive recovery. The participants then completed two diffferent tasks, one watching a doco and one scrolling through social media.
-
The researches looked at mental fatigue between the two groups and saw a significant difference, with the social media group seeing a greater level of mental fatigue, and subsequently a greater decrease in reps achieved.
-
The researches noted higher levels of RPE with no changes in physiological markers of fatigue which supports the notion of mental fatigue post scrolling the facebooks.
-
Whats the take away? Lets try and limit how and why we use our phones when training. Its hard to not use them these days, but use tools like focus mode to block out social media apps where possible.

A new string to our bow of services this year is Team Strength and condition programs.

Team S/C Programs should not be kept exclusive to Professional athletes and organisation

Especially after the year we've just had, creating strong foundations, more in tune athletes, will go a long way to keeping your players more resilient.

It was great to have North Caulfield Maccabi FC join us last week for their initial S/C program. We look forward to working with your athletes over the coming weeks.

To find out more about our programs visit our website or send us a message.
