Next time you find yourself in Liverpool, take a stroll over to the corner of Church Road and Smithdown Place. The “shelter in the middle of a round-about” is right at the top of the street, across from a shop where the barber showed photographs “of every head he’s had the pleasure to know.” It’s still a barbershop today, but that barber and his photographs are long-gone. Continue on and you'll encounter more sights from the famous song written by Liverpool's most legendary locals.
Not a Beatles fan? How about Queen? Well, you're in luck. One of Freddie Mercury's previous residences is also set on Penny Lane. Keep an eye out for the Dovedale Towers (now known as The Dovey): the ornate boarding house a budding Mr. Mercury briefly called home before finding fame of his own.
South of Lolland, you'll find Saksfjed-Hyllekrog, a place with a large nature reserved with wild horses, thousands of migratory birds of prey and stunning views from the top of Hyllekrog lighthouse. 🐎🦅

If you’re a fan of the Marvel Avenger films, you might recognise this pretty harbour town. St Abbs doubled up as ‘New Asgard’ in the popular film franchise. NEWS RELEASE - Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park
A new eruption of Kīlauea volcano that began around 12:30 a.m. on Monday June 3, 2024 is in a closed area of Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park.
Due to the remote and unpredictable nature of the fissure eruption, the following temporary closures are in place for everyone’s safety:
• Hilina Pali Road from Chain of Craters Road intersection
• Kulanaokuaiki Campground
• Pepeiao Cabin
• Kaʻaha Trail and campground
• Kaʻū Desert Trail and pullout on Highway 11
• Maunaiki Trail
St Andrews is of course famous as the Home of Golf, but many people also visit this historic town to go walking by the sea. You might recognise the West Sands beach from the movie Chariots of Fire, one of cinema’s most iconic opening sequences. It is a great place to go exploring, and there are also a choice of adventure sports available here from surfing to land-yachting. Try fish and chips at Tailend Restaurant, grilled cheese at The Cheesy Toast Shack or ice cream at Janetta’s.

Here’s a little tip from me as I’m on my way home from the airport - everyone, and I mean everyone (except me) has black suitcases. Samsonite, Antler, American Tourister, Kmart - doesn’t matter the brand, more than 90% of suitcases on luggage carousels are black. You’ve come off a 24+ hour flight, the last thing you want to do is stand around trying to work out which black suitcase is yours. Ribbons and luggage labels come off. Get coloured suitcases. A few years ago we came back from the USA with a big sporting group, waiting for our cases. All but one appeared. After over an hour of looking it transpired that the group had just randomly grabbed suitcases and had them in a pile. We could have been nearly home the time we wasted looking for that suitcase. I currently have hot pink suitcases - I love them, my kids not so much. But my point is you know it’s yours. You can also get fun covers for cases, but they can be ripped or damaged. Get something bright and unusual, it will stand out and you won’t have to sift through 100 other black suitcases! 😴😴
A day in Amsterdam. This morning I started at Anne Frank House (pic 3), which was a sobering reminder of the horrors that the Jewish people lived through during WWII. No photos were allowed in the museum or the annex - all the better to take it all in and reflect. Miffy is everywhere in the Netherlands. And there are so many gorgeous little streets to wander and explore with so many hidden treasures. Over 20,000 steps on my last day in Amsterdam before the long trek home this evening. Farewell Amsterdam, you’ve been wonderful 🇳🇱
No visit to Amsterdam is complete without visiting the Rijksmuseum. The Rijksmuseum is the national museum of the Netherlands. It tells the story of over 800 years of Dutch history - from 1200 to now. I was fortunate to spend several hours here and saw works by Rembrandt, Vermeer and Van Gogh plus the Frans Hal’s exhibition. If you are interested in art I’d highly recommend booking a guided tour to make the most of your time. It truly is a treasure 🇳🇱
Welcome to the Anantara Grand Hotel Krasnapolsky Amsterdam. Right in the heart of Amsterdam, right on Dam Square. A very historic building. The very last photo is the breakfast room. And yes, there were mini Dutch pancakes for breakfast 🇳🇱
Today we visited the Royal Delft factory in the town of Delft. The factory has been in operation since 1653. It was fascinating to see the process from start to finish. There are currently 13 master painters employed and everything is done by hand! So worth a visit, and of course there is a shop where you can purchase the beautiful pieces.
This evening we were treated to after hours access to the Mauritshuis (The Royal Gallery Mauritshuis) in The Hague. It houses an outstanding collection of seventeenth-century Dutch and Flemish paintings in an important historic monument. The Mauritshuis is named after the man who had it built: Johan Maurits (1604-1679), Count of Nassau-Siegen. Amongst other great masters is Johannes Vermeer’s Girl With A Pearl Earring. We enjoyed a private tour and a delectable 3 course dinner accompanied by a string quartet. A truly Tauck experience.
Today saw us in Rotterdam. A city of 590,000 people. It’s quite flat and super easy to walk or cycle. Picture 4 is a food market/apartment building - called Market Hall. The second last picture is the ceiling inside the building. So much delicious food - we had poffertjes (Dutch pancakes), Dutch cheese, port, herring with raw onion and Dutch beer.
Today we docked in the beautiful town of Nijmegen, located in the eastern part of the Netherlands. It is the capital of the province of Gelderland. I took part in an included optional excursion to visit the WWII history of the area which included a visit to the Airborn Museum at Hartenstein and the Arnhem Osterbeek War Cemetery (also known as the Airborne War Cemetery due to the number of airmen killed during Operation Market Garden). So much history everywhere you look. Children from the local grammar school tend to the graves in the war cemetery.
The beautiful MS Grace, which is currently my floating home. She was built in 2016 and can carry up to 130 guests. She exudes a warmth that makes you feel at home from the moment you step on board. There is a main dining room - The Compass Rose, and an alternate venue - Arthur’s, named after the founder of Tauck. The top deck features deck chairs, mini golf & a spa for relaxing. She’s a beauty ⛵️
Today saw us visit the Zuiderzee Museum. This open air Dutch museum is devoted to preserving the cultural heritage and maritime history of the old Zuiderzee region. Absolutely fascinating and authentic 🇳🇱
Today we journeyed north to Friesland, home of the gorgeous Friesian horses (once considered a nearly extinct breed) where we learned all about these divine creatures and were able to watch one of the magnificent stallions in action. The foal is 2 weeks old. Following on we visited some small Dutch villages, including being able to see a still working windmill dating back to the 1600s. The mill (in pic 4) grinds wheat, barley, grits and mustard and distributes all over the Netherlands.

Monument Valley, one of Rosemary's favourite places to visit, is on the Arizona/Utah border. It's most well known for the towering sandstone buttes of Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park. Many years ago, Rosemary camped here and woke up to sunrise over the monuments - a magical experience.
