Maribyrnong River Cruises + Blackbird Cruises
Peter & Warwick Somerville are the partners in business & have been providing public & private cruises & charter services along the Maribyrnong River since 1979.
Maribyrnong River Cruises has one vessel permanently in service known as the "Blackbird". And it is licensed to carry thirty passengers, diesel-powered craft built in circa 1927/28 for pleasure cruising on the Gippsland Lakes.
After some 40 years of operating in these waters, the Blackbird was transferred by water to Mallacoota Inlet where it began a ferry service, before being transported to Melbourne where it was used as a family runabout, before shifting to its present mooring where it began operating as Maribyrnong River Cruises.
The "Blackbird” has the grace and charm of a bygone era when racegoers regularly travelled by boat to the horse races at Flemington or for leisurely weekend cruises to the Riverview Tea Garden Reserve at Avondale Heights.
