ACCC GIVES THE GREEN LIGHT TO VIRGIN AUSTRALIA CODESHARE WITH AIR NEW ZEALAND
Fare choices across the Tasman set for significant boost.
Virgin Australia has been granted full authority by the ACCC to sell and market trans-Tasman flights operated by Air New Zealand.

Following a draft determination and conditional approval issued last month, the full authority from the competition watchdog will significantly open a wider range of more competitive airfares to and from New Zealand.

The ACCC said its full authority has been granted on the condition Air New Zealand stipulates the fares that Virgin Australia can promote.

The codeshare rights will not apply to routes where Virgin Australia currently competes against Air New Zealand, such as its regular flights to Queenstown from Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne.

Members of Velocity Frequent Flyer will now be able to earn and redeem points on flights operated by Air New Zealand if booked through Virgin Australia.

“We consider that these conditions significantly limit the potential for the code sharing arrangements to lead to anti-competitive behaviour," said ACCC Deputy Chairman, Mick Keogh.

BONZA CANCELS ALL FLIGHTS AS IT CONSIDERS 'VIABILITY' OF BUSINESS
After weeks of industry speculation about its future, budget carrier Bonza has scrapped all flights nationally as it considers its future.
Bonza CEO Tim Jordan released a statement this morning stating all services would be "temporarily suspended".

He added that discussions are now taking place about the ongoing viability of the business.

"We apologise to customers who are impacted by this and we’re working as quickly as possible to determine a way forward that ensures there is ongoing competition in the Australian domestic aviation market," Jordan said.

I could not have said it better myself! Airfares are unfortunately still crazy expensive, and it will be like this at least until early next year.

Travel tips: Book early.

Apart from getting low cost fares, booking early has the best likelihood of getting the hotel, room type, and flight itinerary you prefer. The longer you wait to book, the more likely it is that you will have to make compromises on that trip of a lifetime, which is less fun. If you've been thinking about going to Paris for two months now, you need to decide.
