A MEMORABLE ESCAPE
These wonderful cottages are ideal for guests, be they friends, couples, families or individuals with a love of our natural surroundings wishing to have a relaxing and memorable stay in these comfortable historical cottages. Mount Victoria is the westernmost village in the Blue Mountains, (also its highest at an altitude of 1,064 metres) and is brimming with historic charm and n

atural attractions. Here you can go bushwalking, rock climbing, bird watching or simply visit our charming village without the tourist crowd. Come and see for yourself what it’s like to step out of the fast lane and enjoy a historic mountains cottage escape and indulge in all that the famous Blue Mountains has to offer. The area had been occupied by the Dharug and Gundungurra Aboriginal people for tens of thousands of years before Europeans arrived. Mount Victoria was originally a stockade for convict chain gangs, and later an important staging post for Cobb & Co coaches, the town became known as Mount Victoria in the 1860s when the railway came to town.

Stay at Larsen’s Cottages and enjoy all that Mount Victoria and the Blue Mountains has to offer!!

Feedback from a recent guest staying from the UK ……

"Beautiful location and the property was exactly as described. Excellent communication pre-, during and post stay. The house was left exceptionally clean and tidy and was easily accessible, with very clear instructions. Everything we needed for a comfortable stay was there and it all worked as it should.

Mount Victoria is a gorgeous village, with lots of Blue Mountains experiences close by, either by train or car. We had dinner at the Hotel Etico in the village one evening and it was lovely, the staff were so welcoming. Each morning we would have a ‘cuppa’ on the verandah of the house and watch the world go by, so peaceful.

This property is highly recommended!"

Have you been to Mount York?

Mount York is 7.5km from Mount Victoria and stands at 1061 m with incredible views over the western plains looking across Hartley to Lithgow. There are many layers of Aboriginal and European heritage, several convict built roads (now walking tracks) and remnants of the old convict-built roads (1823-1829) can still be seen in this area.

It's a great spot to stop and relax in the warmer months. Lot's of great vantage points for photography, bushwalks, interpretation signage of how the explorers Wentworth, Lawson and Blaxland crossed the Blue Mountains, picnic tables and vistas over the farmlets over Hartley.

Monuments at the site demonstrate a change in architectural style and social means of commemorating historic events such as the first European crossing of the Blue Mountains, May 1813 by Blaxland, Lawson and Wentworth, survey of the first road by George Evans, November 1813 and building of the first road, Cox's Road, in 1814. Further along, Mount York Road is historic convict-built Lawson's Long Alley and Lockyers Line of Road; Berghoffers Pass and Bardens Lookout.

Mount York is traditionally the land of the Gundungurra and Darug Aboriginal people and today is popular for bushwalking, abseiling, mountains biking and rock climbing.

Stay a while in Mount Victoria. It's a delightful true Victorian village at the most western point of the Blue Mountains. Our sign says 'gateway to the west' and we reckon it says it all.

What a weekend!

While we’re busy preparing for our first official weekend of passenger travel, it’s great to reflect on where we have come from.

Thank you to everyone who supported us during those hard rebuilding years, those who came along last weekend for the opening date launch and everyone who has booked tickets so far!

Limited tickets are still available for opening weekend and bookings are open for all of our operating weekends until the end of 2023 - so now’s the time to get out the calendar and book your spot!

All aboard!

We are excited to announce that we will be officially open to the public on Saturday 27 May!

🎉🚂🤜🤛

We will be open every second weekend, with three trips to choose from on Saturdays and again on Sundays.

Tickets are now on sale for our running days until the end of 2023.

🙏🏼We cannot thank all of our supporters, funding bodies and volunteers enough for their dedication in bringing the railway back to carry passengers once again.

🎟️Tickets can be purchased directly through our website – please be patient as we expect high demand on our system after our 11 year hiatus.

Update: we’re aware of an issue with booking, particularly with Mastercard. Please be assured we are working with our ticketing provider to have this resolved asap. Thank you for your patience.

Welcome back old friend from Larsen's Cottages, Mount Victoria!! Congratulations to all!!

🎉 We’ve done it! 🏆

After 11 long years we have passed the final hurdle and received our full accreditation to carry passengers!

Following a big weekend with our members onboard testing our emergency procedures, the Office of National Rail Safety Regulator lifted the restrictions on our accreditation to allow us to carry passengers.

😱 Yes, really! To say we are excited would be a massive understatement.

Receiving full accreditation was the final regulatory hurdle we had to clear before being able to bring you all back for the journey down the historic tracks.

🛑 Before you hit the message button and ask, YES, an announcement on our opening date will be just around the corner.

We’re putting the final touches on our plans, website and other systems so that we can confidently invite you to book tickets and join us as the magic of steam returns to Clarence. 🚂

Pssst: If you’ve been waiting in the wings for a sign to join and become a volunteer… now’s the time to do it! Come and be part of the crew that’s behind those moments our passengers will remember forever.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

Lest we forget.
