So excited to be sleeping in The Tiny Train tonight. We are counting down the days until we are ready to open for our first guests.

We are also honoured to be hosting a group of Bibbulmun Track volunteers for the weekend, doing maintenance on the Track. We are so grateful for these legends working away in the background keeping the track clear and the huts ready as havens for weary walkers each night.

Footprints of the past, whispers in the wind. The 100 year celebration of the establishment of Tingledale, Group Settlement 106 was held on the WA Day long weekend. Tingledale School is where our kid’s great grandfather, Reg Anning was a school teacher and where Pierre and Madame’s second oldest daughter, Muriel Bellanger also taught. Our daughter still plays in the playground and our guests play tennis on the tennis courts. History is very much alive.

We acknowledge the prior and ongoing custodianship of the land, water and air by the Minang/Bibbulmun/Murrum people of the Noongar nation. The Walpole, Nornalup, Bow Bridge district is OPEN FOR BUSINESS. After the recent fires, all businesses are open again and everything is safe and back to normal. The Valley of the Giants Tree Top Walk is open, the Bibbulmun Track is undamaged and all your favourite local businesses are open. All our beautiful beaches, rivers and inlets are open. There is a small section of the Munda Biddi Trail that is closed and one Mundi Biddi hut is closed, otherwise, we are all ready to host you and your friends again. THANKS. Thanks from us to all of you. The farmers, the volunteers, professionals, the small business owners, the parents, the helpers, the neighbours, the brigades and resources that came from far away to help with the recent bushfire near our property. The farm next door was placed on Yellow Bushfire Advice and our property wasn’t, so it was a stressful time for us all, especially those closer to the fire.

For reference, we are just under the ‘a’ in Nornalup in the second image. The fire will continue to burn for weeks as it is in the peat habitat of the endangered Sunset Frog. The fire has burnt approximately 13,700 hectares in the Frankland State Forest, Mount Frankland National Park and Mount Roe National Parks and the Walpole Wilderness Area.

May we all respect the lives of all of the humans, plants and animals at risk from bushfire, and the properties, habitats and ecosystems that they live in.

UPDATE: the neighbours were given the ALL CLEAR last night and the fire situation is much better now.

EDITED TO ADD: Since I scheduled this post on Wednesday, an arsonist has lit 4 separate fires in Walpole Wilderness Area to the north of us. Our next door neighbours are on Yellow Bushfire Advice and many other property owners have evacuated out of the Red Bushfire Emergency Warning Areas! Gratitude to all the firefighters and the supporters, stay safe everyone and may the day end well for all. Our heart breaks for the forest and it’s creatures and we hope that the light winds and lower temperatures allow some creatures to escape the flames.

We are experiencing record-breaking low rainfall, once in a lifetime drought conditions in the South Coast of Western Australia. The first photo was taken on our property in early March 2024. The remaining photos were taken in April from 2020-2023. There is a shortage of feed in paddocks. There is a shortage of grain and other feed to feed out to stock. Water tanks and dams have run dry. Our native forests are dying. Yesterday, I saw 5 water carting trucks just in the morning.

Please consider one thing that you or your family can do for climate change and to support a local farming family today. Reduce your household greenhouse gas emissions. Buy from a farmer. Thank you.
