After numerous interest rate rises, Council rate rises, the introduction of the Airbnb tax and now the raising of the land tax threshold it seems the Victorian Labor Government are hell-bent on putting an end to the short-stay industry in our State. They really do follow the WEF's mantra, "You will own nothing and be happy."

Just watching…

If you’re wanting to come and view the filming of “Ice Road 2: Road to the Sky” there is a vantage point along the top of the stone wall. Please obey the instructions of the marshalls that are here to assist with the smooth running of the movie making process.

Strongly advised to bring sunscreen, water and an umbrella. You will need to park below the Old PO and walk to this location.

Please be courteous and share the viewing area. No seats are allowed. Be mindful of other people who want to have a look so move around and perhaps only spend up to an hour viewing the action. It’s a good idea to bring a zoom camera or binoculars as the filming is taking place some distance away.

Of course, while in Walhalla, take the opportunity to visit the cafes, railway, pub and mine to make a full day of it.

Another beautiful day in town!

Preparations continue for the upcoming filming which is due to commence next week.

We understand that many people have questions about the filming, unfortunately local businesses and residents are not privy to the day to day operations or filming schedule as it’s a very dynamic process and things can change at a whim.

If you are planning to visit during the filming, please be patient and plan ahead as there will potentially be traffic delays and limited parking.

Skills we have acquired over a very long career. Skills that make us a nightmare for people like you. If you've taken Liam's daughter, you can hide out at Happy Go Lucky Hideout. Come now, that'll be the end of it. He will look for you, he will pursue you, but he won't find you and he won't be able to kill you.

One of the challenges of holiday rental is to ensure safe protocols are in place, especially coming into the warmer weather when fire safety is paramount. A designated fire pit as far away from the house as possible is essential. Our fire pit is a 40-metre distance from the house, protected by the rock face in a cleared area. The remains of the fire (depicted) was started in the parking area not more than 2 metres from the timber deck. The wind often funnels through the valley and it wouldn't take much for the embers to blow onto the deck and burn the house down. Our aim is to share the beautiful area with those who take the time to explore Walhalla and its rich history. We just ask that people respect it and leave it as they found it.

A bit cooler today…which makes a wood fired pizza even more appealing!
Did you know that there is a fabulous pizza restaurant just down the road that serves traditional Italian pizzas? The owners even ventured to Italy pre-covid to do a full pizza making course!
Only open on weekends, Assaggio del Forno is well worth checking out. It’s located just off the Rawson-Tyers road about 3kms south of the T intersection of the Walhalla Road. They also do take away which is very popular with the locals. It’s advised to book if dining in.

Why this?

We have witnessed the slow creep of freedom being overshadowed by rules, rules and more rules. Especially evident in rural Victoria where even our ability to collect firewood without a permit or banishment altogether. For some of us an absolute necessity when it’s the only form of heating during our cold winter. But why would someone who barely leaves Spring Street understand that?

We believe that it is the right of every Australian to have unfettered access to natures playground yet this could be further hampered if Andrews new laws come to pass. If you think you can go to Coopers Creek for a swim, camp at Meringtons or fish in Stringers Creek, forget it! Imagine getting a $900 fine for stepping off the track to dip your rod in the water or fined for swimming in an unauthorised body of water. This is simply wrong and another example of our freedoms being blocked by ridiculous rules. Laws like this are the death knell for small country towns.

Labor under the rule of Andrews has seen the longest lockdown in the world, many small rural towns like Walhalla and businesses still haven’t recovered. People’s meagre incomes from small Café’s to Accommodation rentals have been left in ruins with little or no support or recognition from Victoria’s Labor Government. If you think the Liberal Party is the saviour, remember that they voted with Labor for a large percentage of the Mandates.

The Freedom Party of Victoria is comprised of real people, not career politicians, who are passionate to represent us in Parliament. Jobs, family, freedom. Fairdinkum policies for small business, not the top end of town. Bringing autonomy back for parents so that our children’s health and wellbeing is not controlled by Government. Finally and importantly an end to the secrecy that has plagued the Labor Government with openness to the public so that politicians will be held to account.

Food availability in Walhalla. With lots of people around there are now a few options:
Walhalla Goldfields Railway Goods Shed Cafe is open when their train runs - Wednesdays, Weekends and Public Holidays.
A new cafe has also opened in what was the general store in Walhalla - Walhalla Witchery Cafe open 7 days a week from 10am to 4pm. Towns folk are running this cafe.
You can always grab a coffee at the Corner Store - Post Office and Museum, open 10am to 4pm daily as well.

A little trek into Victoria's winter wonderland. Breathing in the aromas of the bush, fresh wild mint mixed with eucalypt and ferns. The mountains are sodden with recent winter rain. If you don't mind the leeches it's such a lovely time to walk the forest trails. Then return to the comfort of a toasty warm fire with a cup of cocoa or glass of wine.
